As you build your budding island community in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, part of that involves inviting and living alongside adorable animal neighbours. With over 400 villagers available in the game, you’re sure to have your eye on a few favourites that you want living alongside you.
There are a few different ways that you can invite new villagers to your island, so here’s everything you need to know. The only real question left is which villagers do you want to invite?
Every Way To Invite New Villagers To Your Island
Visitors At The Campsite
Once you’ve upgraded Resident Services to a proper building, you’ll craft the Campsite and choose its location. The day after it has been crafted, you’ll receive your first camper.
After that, visiting campers will appear periodically, regardless of how many villagers you currently have. You can speak with them and invite them to your island, though you may need to win a card game to achieve this, but not always.
If you lose the card game, keep talking to them until they offer to play again. Fortunately, you don’t always need to win a card game and some villagers you can just invite straight away.
You can also win clothing or furniture by playing cards.
If you already have ten villagers on your island and you invite the camper, they will randomly suggest one of your current villagers move out to free up a plot.
If the camper suggests a villager you don’t want to lose, don’t agree or decline – just exit/close the game without saving. Open it back up and head back to the campsite and invite them again, and they’ll choose another random villager to kick out.
You can repeat this until they suggest someone you’re willing to lose. It’s a great way to get rid of a villager you don’t want on your island.
Use Amiibo Cards
In Resident Services, you can use the Nook Stop machine and choose the ‘Invite A Camper’ option to use Amiibo Cards to invite specific villagers to your island as a camper.
These villagers will appear immediately in the campsite and will stay there until the next day, but they won’t move in on the first day. Instead, you’ll have to complete a DIY craft request for them (if you don’t have the recipe, they will gift it to you).
Afterwards, you can invite them, but they’ll tell you to ask them again.
You need to keep inviting the Amiibo camper back and continue to complete their DIY requests until you have invited them to stay three times, at which point they will agree.
Mystery Island Tours
Head to the Nook Stop machine in Resident Services, and you can redeem 2,000 Nook Miles to purchase a Nook Miles Ticket.
You can then use this ticket at the Airport to travel to a Mystery Island. There’s a chance a villager will be walking around the island, and if it’s one you want, you can speak with them and invite them to move to your island.
Villagers will not appear on Mystery Island Tours if you do not have a vacant housing plot for them to move into.
Friend’s Islands
You can also go to visit the islands of friends from the Airport, and if one of their villagers is in the process of moving out (with their belongings in boxes), then you can ask them to move to your island.
Vacant Plots
If you have a vacant plot, either because your island is fairly new or because you recently had a villager move out, then a random villager will move into that plot within a couple of days.
When Do Villagers Move In?
When villagers move in depends on whether it happens naturally or if they’ve been invited.
- If you have an empty/available plot, villagers will move in after one or two days.
- However, if you have invited a villager from another island or via the Campsite, they will move in the day after they agree.
How Many Villagers Can You Have On Your Island?
You can only have a maximum of ten villagers living on your island with you; it’s like your Myspace top eight all over again.
