Drew Ferguson has been obsessively discussing games, movies, comic books, and book-books his entire life. Somewhere along the way, he learned the dark art of putting words in an order that (some) people find cool, formally known to the world as writing. It’s a skill that’s led him down many different roads, some dark and some light, gaining secret powers and forbidden knowledge. Since then, he’s written many things, like comic books (MALICENT BLACK, SAM AND HIS TALKING GUN, with more to come), book-books (THE BLEEDING CITY, with more to come), and currently writes many a thing for TheGamer. His journey through this world is still in its beginning, and while there are other worlds than these, he’s still looking forward to seeing all of the secrets this world holds.
Fallout 76 is full of things to do, both things that are regular occurrences in the Fallout world, and things that are brand new to the game. But, one thing that was missing until the Burning Springs update was Bounty Hunting.
Bounty Hunting involves a character that those who have seen the Fallout TV show will be familiar with: The Ghoul. It will also require traveling to a brand-new location on the new western section of the map. Bounty Hunting is a bit more difficult than much of the other content in the game, but it does come with some nice rewards.
Where To Start Bounty Hunting
In order to start Bounty Hunting, you’ll need to head to Highway Town, which is on the west side of the map, in Burning Springs. It’s located just across the bridge near the Mothman Museum, then slightly to the north.
Once inside, you’ll need to head to The Last Resort, which is a saloon, and talk with The Ghoul.

Types Of Bounties
There are two types of Bounties in Fallout 76: Grunt Hunts and Head Hunts.
- Grunt Hunt: These can be picked up from the table right next to The Ghoul and ran as often as you’d like. They’ll take you somewhere in Burning Springs after a certain target who is usually going to have allies around them. You’ll be given a small area in which to search for the target, and once you’ve located them, ten minutes to take them down.
- Head Hunt: You can also speak to The Ghoul to get a higher value target, which is going to be a much more involved encounter. This is going to cost you 5000 Caps, and will put that Bounty on the Bounty Board outside The Last Resort. Interact with it to locate it on the map, then travel there to start an event that other players can join; you’ll likely need their help in taking down the target and their allies.
You can also receive a Head Hunt Bounty Poster after completing Grunt Hunts, though this is slightly rare.
Bounty Hunting Rewards
Bounty Hunting is a fairly lucrative time, particularly if you’re looking to gain a steady supply of Legendaries out of the deal.
- Completing a Grunt Hunt rewards you with Legendary Modules and one Legendary Item. The Bounty Target will also usually have another Legendary Item on their body, if you manage to loot them.
- Finishing off a Head Hunt is going to reward you with quite a few items, including multiple Legendary Items, and a big chunk of XP.
Bounty Hunting is especially lucrative if you’re trying to gain quite a few Legendary Items in a relatively short amount of time. Even if you don’t like the Legendary Items that you get, you can use the Legendary Exchange and Legendary Vendors to gain new ones for your trouble.
