The Burning Springs update in Fallout 76 injects a healthy dose of fresh content to enjoy in Appalachia, like a new section of the map: Burning Springs. You’ll quickly encounter The Rust King and his army of Rust Raiders that rule over this new western section of the map in Ohio, a different state from the rest of Appalachia’s map.
In addition to the new location, quests, and legendary mods, Burning Springs adds two new sets of challenges that specifically focus on enemies and tasks in the new region. You’ll need to complete these ‘Tests of Might’ and ‘Tests of Dominance’ to advance the story, so we’ve got you covered.
How Do You Start ‘Might Makes Right’?
Immediately after you finish speaking to The Rust King and complete the introductory Burning Springs quest, Welcoming Committee, you’ll begin the next quest, Might Makes Right.
You’re dropped outside The Rust Kingdom in front of a sign directing you north to Highway Town. Follow the road north and then take the western road that loops up and into Highway Town.
When you come to the destroyed bridge, go down and around the long way, or you’ll risk dying from falling damage from the drop.
After you get to the other side of the ruined highway, you’ll get a pop-up discovering Highway Town. Follow your marker to the elevator and use it to enter the Highway Town Interior.
Once inside, turn right and follow your marker up the first flight of steps, then follow an arrow on the wall pointing down a flight of stairs against a wall.
Continue following the marker toward the back to the entrance of the Last Resort bar. Talk to Millstone at the bar and ask about Runt. He’ll tell you to go back to the town elevator and look for Runt in the maintenance closet.
Go there, and you’ll find Runt inside the Maintenance Closet door.

Honey Beasts are well worth seeking out in Fallout 76. Here’s where you can find them.
How To Finish Runt’s Tests
Talk to Runt and tell him you’re ready to prove yourself, and he’ll ask you to complete three Tests of Might.
Navigate to the Challenges menu, then scroll down to the ‘Burning Springs’ tab at the bottom for a list of the Tests of Might you can complete:
- Kill and cook two Radhog Alphas
- Kill an Ogua
- Complete a Grunt Hunt
- Cripple 15 limbs
- Get five kills using explosive weapons
How To Complete Tests Of Might Fast
The easiest tests are to cripple limbs, get explosive kills, and complete a Grunt Hunt.
Finishing a Grunt Hunt typically provides ample opportunity to complete the other two tests simultaneously, making it the most efficient method for completing this part.
If you decide to do a Grunt Hunt, you’ll need to speak to the ghoul in the corner back at the Last Resort bar to learn about bounty hunting.
Pick up a Grunt Hunt off the table next to the ghoul to get started. Check your map and follow the marker to the outlaw for your Grunt Hunt.
You may randomly encounter an Ogua in the wild on your way to the bounty. If so, prepare for a tough fight unless you can get to higher ground out of the Ogua’s reach. This will freeze the creature since it can’t find a path to get to you.
Once you’ve completed your three Tests of Might, return to Runt, who will have four more challenges for you to complete: Tests of Dominance.
How To Complete Tests Of Dominance Fast
Check the Challenges tab again to find a selection of Tests of Dominance to choose from:
- Complete a Head Hunt
- Get 30 Critical Hits in V.A.T.S
- Kill five legendary enemies
- Kill 15 enemies using fire damage
- Kill 30 Rust Raiders
- Kill a Deathclaw using its weak spot
You should start by initiating a Head Hunt, then use this opportunity to focus on also getting 30 Critical Hits in V.A.T.S., killing 30 Rust Raiders, and your choice of a fourth Test, as they’re all fairly equal in difficulty.
Killing five legendary enemies will be easy if you do two Head Hunts and at least tag the legendary enemies with a shot or two before they die.
Start the Head Hunt event and prepare for a massive challenge with multiple legendary enemies to kill. Once you’re done there, you should have three of the required four completed Tests of Dominance.
Head to The Rust Kingdom to find a massive concentration of Rust Raiders to finish the fourth test and advance the quest.
What Rewards Do You Get From Finishing ‘Might Makes Right’?
Head back to Runt, where you’ll find Eugene in his place — talk to him. Once you’re done speaking to Eugene, you’ll earn your rewards:
- Plan: Highway Town chem store sign
- Plan: Rust raider medium outfit
- Legendary Modules
- Three Treasury Notes
- 800 caps
- 800 experience
- Additional misc items
With your reward accepted, the next quest, Insurrection, will begin.
