Houndstone may look like a spooky powerhouse, but tracking it down in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s DLC Mega Dimension can feel more like chasing a ghost than catching a Pokemon. Between Hyperspace Lumiose’s rotating portals and an evolution that plays by its own rules, it’s easy to end up barking up the wrong tree.
The game offers very few hints, so if you’re ready to stop digging through dimensions and want to add this Ghost-type to your team without the hassle, this guide will point you in the right direction, no seance required.
How To Find And Catch Greavard
To get Houndstone, you’ll first need Greavard, which appears in the Mega Dimension version of Hyperspace Lumiose, unlocked after completing the main story. This post-game area cycles through rotating Wild Zones accessed via portals, each tied to a specific Pokemon type.
Greavard appears exclusively in Ghost-type Mega Dimension portals. When browsing the available portals, look for the Ghost symbol displayed beneath the featured Pokemon images. Greavard’s icon appears as a grey canine silhouette with a candle-like shape on its head.
Because Mega Dimension portals rotate with the day/night cycle, the Ghost-type zone won’t always be available. If you don’t see it right away, rest on a park bench to advance time and refresh the portal lineup. It may take a few resets before the correct dimension appears.
Once inside, you don’t need to brace for an aggressive fight. While Mega Dimension Pokemon are generally stronger than standard wild encounters, Greavard is notably docile in this zone and won’t immediately pressure your team. That makes it easier to set up a clean capture.
Still, its boosted stats mean it can take a few hits, so bringing solid Poke Balls and a team that can safely chip away at its health.

Shroodle isn’t hiding from you on purpose, it just lives in a weird dimension.
How To Evolve Greavard Into Houndstone
Evolving Greavard into Houndstone has two requirements:
- Level Greavard to Level 30
- Level it up at night
Simply reaching level 30 isn’t enough. If Greavard levels up during the daytime, it will not evolve. To avoid missing the trigger, chill until nighttime before using EXP Candies or entering a battle that will push it over the level threshold.
Once Greavard gains a level at night after reaching level 30, the evolution will automatically begin, and it’ll transform into Houndstone. No additional items or menu selections are required.
