As you go through the lands of Where Winds Meet, you’ll go through various challenging combat encounters, but some of the most fun battles in this game are against bosses. This is not just because you have to focus on only one enemy, but also because you can experience a completely new set of attacks and dodge timings.
Zheng E is one such boss, and he’s a campaign boss that you can meet while solving a grain crisis. Apart from being beautifully designed, this boss also has a bunch of attacks that you might face a lot of difficulty against, especially in the second phase.
Zheng E’s Boss Fight Location
As you go through the main story of Where Winds Meet, you’ll unlock a ton of campaign bosses like the Heartseeker and Dao Lord. Apart from these, there are also some optional campaign bosses that can be encountered through the Lost Chapter campaigns once you reach a specific area. If you’ve gone past the area with these campaigns, they appear in the Lost Chapter segment of your quest menu.
Ever-Normal Granary is one such campaign, and you can encounter it in the southern part of Kaifeng as soon as you enter the place through the main story. After revealing this southern portion of the map, you can easily find the Ever-Normal Granary on the right side when you’re fully zoomed in.
When you get close to the area, the campaign quest will automatically trigger and you can start it by listening in on the mother and the child talking to a soldier.
After a few dialogues in this quest, you’ll enter the granary where you’ll first have to defeat a mini-boss called Li Shoujie. Once you realize that the soldiers in the granary are hostile, you’ll have to find your way inside by yourself. While going through this quest, you’ll then enter a blue area with a bunch of giant blue-colored flowers.
You have to hit these flowers with flame arrows to open the path forward continuously. At the end of this path, you’ll have to save an NPC by removing three of these flowers, and one of them is on the back of the right branch where he’s captured. After freeing him, you’ll be led to the final boss fight room against Zheng E.

How To Beat Zheng E
As soon as you start your fight against Zheng E, you’ll quickly realize that this fight has a unique mechanic that you don’t see often in Where Winds Meet. Zheng E is one of the few bosses who can actually parry your attacks, and he does it quite often, especially in the first phase.
This boss typically has a decent amount of downtime between his attacks, but he’s very likely to parry your attacks during this. Most of Zheng’s attacks are also very fast-paced, and you have to learn the timing if you want to dodge them efficiently. Apart from that, the boss has a normal two-phase battle, and here’s what you can expect from each phase.
Phase One
The first phase of Zheng E’s boss fight is relatively easy as most of the attacks can be deflected if you can time the block well. Two of the most common attacks in this phase are very similar where he attacks with his fan and made-up swords in close range. One of these attacks has three instances, while the other has five.
The specialty of these two attacks is that after Zheng E is done with them, he spawns a bunch of ice veins from the ground, and you can see where these are going to spawn by paying attention to the changes in the ground. You can deflect these attacks to lower the enemy’s Qi, but you can also simply sidestep them.
If you do the latter, you can get a bit of time to attack Zheng E, which helps you lower both his Qi and HP.
If Zheng E manages to parry your attack in this phase, he’s very likely to move back and perform a ranged attack where he first throws two ice waves in your direction and then launches himself forward. These three can easily be deflected. Furthermore, he can also sometimes spawn two horizontal ice waves on the field before launching them at you.
In our experience, these were a little difficult to parry even with good timing, and it was easier to just sidestep or dodge them. The boss can also throw some ice shards at you during this phase, which can also be deflected easily.
Every time you get hit by Zheng E’s attack, you’ll gain progress on the immobilize bar that appears in the middle after the first hit.
If this bar fills up, your character will get frozen in place for a few seconds, vulnerable to all attacks.
Zheng E also has a red attack in this phase that you can easily stop with the Meridian Touch ability, though this can also be deflected in time for a significant drain of the enemy’s Qi. The best time to attack Zheng E in this phase is right after his attacks, especially the melee attack with five instances since he stays on the ground for quite a bit after.
Phase Two
The second phase of this battle starts when you completely drain the first HP bar, and you’ll know when it starts since it always begins with a special attack. In this attack, the boss goes on a high platform with a bunch of ice veins and also covers the surrounding area. After that, he launches two yellow attacks that you can’t dodge and then a red attack. Parrying this attack sends it back at the boss and breaks his platform.
After going through the phase change attack, you’ll find Zheng E using a ton of new abilities, and a lot of them will be yellow attacks that you can’t dodge. He can sometimes dash at you right after his hand glows yellow, and if he catches you during this dash, he slams you on the ground and does a ton of damage.
A good rule for this phase is to prepare yourself to dodge most of the attacks unless you’re sure it’s not a yellow one.
Zheng E will perform various yellow attacks where he flies and constantly hurls ice waves at you. At the end of these attacks, he throws himself at your current location as well, which is also a yellow attack. It’s highly recommended to sidestep the waves so that you have endurance left for his final dash.
Finally, this boss also makes the ice vein platform similar to the phase change attack during the second phase, where he then hurls a bunch of spears at your location. You can easily dodge these by moving in one direction. It’s preferred not to dash here as you need endurance for his yellow attacks right after this one.
