How To Defeat The Mother In Chapter Five Of Reanimal

How To Defeat The Mother In Chapter Five Of Reanimal

The fifth chapter of Reanimal begins a little unceremoniously, more so than the previous chapters, with the seamless entry into the next area ahead of you on your terrifying journey through the dark: a spooky, ruined town that seems to be run by a large, hairy spider monster.

This is Mother, the next boss you’ll be dealing with in Reanimal, and this chapter is all about pursuing her and the Spider Kids through the dark to fight your way back to the surface and onto the next chapter of the terrifying indie horror title from Little Nightmares devs Tarsier Studios.

The Dark Streets

Being lowered into the hole in chapter five of Reanimal.

You’ll awaken strapped to the lowering device your friend had previously been on, strung up above the ground. Wriggle around until the crane lowers you to a point where you can hop down. While you’ll be freed from the device, you’ll notice that the orphans are still tied together, which means you’re restricted in your movements for the foreseeable future, as she moves markedly slower than the male orphan.

Reanimal Review – An Evolution Of Nightmares

Reanimal is a fantastic evolution of the Little Nightmares formula, with only a couple of hiccups to show for the transition.

Venture forward between the cars, hop onto broken platforms near the school bus to safely cross a gap, and you’ll find yourself at the first of several streetlight puzzles. The lamps only work when you interact with them, leading to the light bulb turning on and briefly illuminating the area to give you a sense of where to go, and you’ll also be able to see the next streetlamp from where you are, so you know where to go.

Interact with the first streetlamp to get going. Hop over a small gap to get to the next lamp, and kick that one as well to light the path ahead across a plank over a gap. Cross the gap using the plank before approaching the next streetlamp, but interacting with this one makes the path ahead collapse almost entirely, leaving only thin spindles reaching across the gap.

How To Cross The Broken Path

The trick here is that, although you’re tied together, only one orphan can go on a path, since the weight of both kids will cause the thin pavement to crumble.

Send the boy orphan over to the right path, and the female orphan will align herself instead on the left. Walk forward until you reach a small gap, then carefully jump the gap as the male orphan to reach the next piece of pavement. The female orphan can’t jump here without it collapsing, so move the male orphan to the jagged piece of pavement that sticks out toward the left path, the one it looks like the female orphan can jump to.

She’ll use this time to run around to the far side of the left path, so gently tug her back toward the middle and walk to the other side as the male orphan slowly to coax her to hop over the gap on her path, reuniting the two of you once again.

Meeting Mother

Reuniting with your friend in chapter five of Reanimal.

On the other side of this gap is a large hole in the wall. Run on ahead, but don’t try to jump the gap. Instead, wait for your friend on the other side to push down the plank of wood over there to make a bridge for you and the female orphan to cross together.

There’s only one path forward here, so follow the pig to the right, further down the hall to see what’s going on, crouching and jumping around the rubble of the building as needed, then make a right to leave through the crack in the far right wall past the pig where it’s standing in the rubble.

If you interact with the pig to try and soothe it, you’ll earn an achievement for your nurturing nature.

Running From Mother: Going Up

The pig was scared for a reason, though – the enormous, hairy spider monster, Mother, is waiting just on the other side of this crack for you to emerge. She jumps down from her position, grabs your friend, and spits out several Spider Children that will follow you. Sprint across the bridge here – you can’t help your friend right now – and go through the opening on the other side.

Keep sprinting as you ascend the stairs, since the Spider Kids are still on your tail and Mother is catching up herself. Don’t take corners too sharply; move in a large circle up the stairs to cut corners and shave some time off your sprinting, because milliseconds matter in this game more than other horror titles like it! Crawl through the opening at the end of the one hall at the top of the stairs to end this chase sequence.

If you’re still seeking the resting places in Reanimal, you can take a rest on the wooden chair against the support beam in the middle of the floor for a moment to check another resting spot off your list.

Venture forward into the room, scaling the rubble as needed to move more freely and making your way to the door on the far side of the room, with the side door locked tight for now. Push your way in here, where you’ll find yourself at the bottom of another giant staircase you’ll need to climb. Make your way up past the cabinetry, climbing with the female orphan as needed to pass roadblocks.

If you go through the door on the left before climbing over the large cabinet that’s blocking your path, you’ll find one of the 20 hidden posters in Reanimal that unlocks some neat concept art back in the game’s main menu when found.

Scale the cabinet and finish climbing the stairs, then leave through the door at the top, where you’ll be outside on a shoddy wooden platform along the facade of the building.

A hidden poster in chapter five of Reanimal.

The wooden chair before the first jump just after you emerge from the building through the door is also one of the resting places in Reanimal that unlocks the Take a Load Off trophy.

Hop over the gap, make your way along the popes to the lower section of roofing, and re-enter the building through the window you can pry open with your crowbar. Inside, you’ll find plenty more petrified children, and one of them about halfway through the room on the right has the key you’ll need to unlock the hatch at the back of the room in the floor that will allow you to proceed once you get the key off the body and unlock it.

Running From Mother: Outdoors

This hatch drops you down into a pile of items and crates, so take cover, because Mother is looking for you in this room, too. The trick to crossing the room is to wait until she’s looking the other way and use the time she’s peering in the opposite direction to move to the next set of crates in the room, being sure to crouch as needed to hide and muffle your steps.

There’s no good way back out of the room, so your only choice is to sprint for the door from the last hiding place while Mother is looking to the right, providing you with a brief head start for the next chase across the rest of the building. Run along this broken section of roof and hop over a broken wooden plank crossing a gap to formally reach the checkpoint for this chase.

Speed is crucial here, so be quick about working with the female orphan to push down the rusted pipe to make a path across to the next section of roof. Dash across here after being pulled back up, jumping over gaps and taking corners in a rounder fashion to make the pattern easier for sprinting.

Get up on the platform and follow it back down toward the camera after you’re back on solid ground. Jump over the beam laying across the path and make your way quickly to the tipped cabinet on the left to use it as a platform to run on it over the rubble. Keep running toward the camera and carefully cross the wooden beam paths to the other side. Squeeze through the hole in the wall at the end here to reach the next checkpoint – and the boss puzzle for this section of Reanimal.

The Best Horror Games To Play With Friends

There are some great horror games with a focus on multiplayer offerings, and here are the best ones you can play with friends.

Mother Boss Fight Guide

Starting the boss fight against Mother in Reanimal.

Mother will emerge from the wall behind you ready to fight to the death. She spits out a gaggle of Spider Kids onto the field, most of whom scatter into the rafters, but you can take out a few with your crowbar before they can make it to fight by mother’s side.

Though your crowbar has worked so far, you can’t hurt Mother with your crowbar yet, so you’ll need to rely on waiting for the Spider Kids to lob spears at you, which you can then in turn use against Mother. You will need to avoid them, though, since you’ll die after only one hit from a spear. Stand still until they throw their spears and then run to dodge, since the spears can’t change course mid-air and will stick out of the ground for you to grab as well.

You can also use them on the Spider Kids, taking aim and lobbing the spears back at them to take them out. Killing ten of them in this fashion before finishing the fight against Mother in Reanimal will pop an achievement.

During this section of the boss puzzle for chapter five of Reanimal, Mother will burst through the wall in two spots: on where you first came into the room, and another where she breaks through the wall and scaffolding on the left side of the room. Each time, she’ll swing each of her arms around wildly, trying to grab the orphans.

Being grabbed by Mother isn’t an instant death, though, provided the female orphan is currently holding one of the spears. In this case, she’ll lob it at Mother who will then drop the male orphan so you can keep fighting safely. If the female orphan doesn’t have a spear when you get grabbed, though, you’ll be killed and need to start the fight over.

Defeating Mother in Reanimal.

While she’s doing this, you’ll need to avoid being grabbed as best you can and throw the spears into Mother’s body. You don’t need to be too precise in your aim here, but keep repeating the pattern of avoiding her reach, grabbing spears after avoiding their onslaught, and lobbing them at Mother. She follows the same pattern for entry points into the room, so always be mindful.

After she takes enough hits, Mother will retreat into a hole, so send the two orphans to follow her. You’ll find her at the back of a tunnel nearly defeated, so walk into her mouth. The camera will change, and it’ll be time to swing your crowbar wildly to do a number on Mother from the inside. After the screen pulses for a moment, she’ll spit you back out in defeat, including your friend with the bucket on their head. Go outside with your friend to end chapter five of Reanimal.
