How To Defeat The Final Boss Sylux In Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

With Metroid Prime 4: Beyond finally released, players will have a lot of enemies to exterminate, collectibles to hunt down, and puzzles to solve. Eventually, after you have collected every Teleporter Key, you will make your way to the top of Chrono Tower.

Waiting for you is the final boss, Sylux. However, unlike the robots he was using throughout the campaign, this Sylux has a ton of health and new moves that deal a ton of damage. Broken up into three phases, here’s how to defeat the final boss, Sylux, and finally complete Metroid Prime 4: Beyond’s campaign.

How To Defeat Sylux

Phase One

Sylux isn’t messing around this time.

When the battle begins, Sylux will become impervious to all attacks, and three nano arms will sprout from his body. These arms can only take damage at the glowing green ends, so you’ll mainly need to free aim to hit them. Sylux really only has one attack during this portion and it’s flailing the large nano arms around in hopes of hitting you.

If your allies get knocked down, you need to revive them before Sylux does enough damage to them; otherwise, they will be killed, and the fight will end! Unfortunately, you will need to prioritize saving them at times over your own health.

Thankfully, the arms individually don’t need to take a lot of damage to be destroyed. Once the end of a nano arm has been popped, quickly approach it and use the Psychic Lasso to rip it off. This will send Sylux into a fit, as he will chase you around the arena in an attempt to ram into Samus.

Repeat this process two more times until all three arms have been ripped off his body. Sylux will then become unprotected, giving you a brief window to blast him with Missiles. After sustaining a little damage, the nano arms will regrow into their dragon form!

In this mode, they are highly volatile and can only be damaged by shooting the giant metal heads. His attacks this time included spouting a barrage of three fireballs at a time in an arc and firing angled fire beams around the body.

You can avoid most of these by just keeping your distance from Sylux and letting your allies draw his aggro during the fight. However, the fireballs will leave small, temporary pools of lava on the ground, so make sure to move to a different part of the arena when this attack is over.

Make sure to keep an eye out for when a head starts to glow blue, as this means it’s about to launch forward to grab you! Getting grabbed will deal a ton of damage to you; be ready to dodge it.

After the dragon variant of the nano arms takes enough damage, they will revert to their original form, and he will sprout an extra arm. Sylux will now introduce a new attack where he slams all four arms onto the ground and spins around the arena. This move can be easily avoided by just double-jumping over.

Focus once more on destroying and ripping off each arm to open up another damage window where you can shave some of Sylux’s health off. When this finishes, he will spawn new ice versions of his nano arms which introduce two new moves.

These are firing a barrage of icicles around the arena that will freeze Samus if she is caught, and a move that sucks you towards Sylux so he can slap you with his nano arm. The former can be avoided by just continuously dodging in one direction around the arena, while the latter can be countered by holding back on the Left Stick the moment he starts pulling you in.

The Super Fire Shot is great for when he’s trying to suck you in, as the large spiral will hit multiple nano arms during this attack!

Upon either taking enough damage or enough time passing, his arms will revert to their original state, in which you will repeat destroying, tearing them off, and blasting Sylux when he is vulnerable. He will introduce one new move in this section, which sees him spin around the arena like a top. Use the Morph Ball to quickly get away as he chases you.

After losing around 20 percent health, Sylux will introduce an electric variant of its nano arms. The attacks for this are just bouncing electrical orbs you can easily avoid and striking the ground with lightning. If he does this attack, look for the purple circles on the ground and run to the area where they don’t exist. The Boost Ball, specifically, is great for getting there fast!

Unfortunately, your allies kind of suck at dodging this variant’s attacks, so focus on keeping them alive rather than damaging the arm. You’ll mostly need to wait this one out to ensure your team isn’t down when Sylux’s nano arms revert to their normal state.

Keep this up until Sylux loses enough damage to trigger a cutscene and send you to the next phase.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Beginner Tips

Here’s a few essential tips and tricks to help get you started on the planet of Viewros in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Phase Two

After taking around 40 percent damage, Sylux will open up a wormhole and tackle Samus into it. Good news, you don’t have to babysit the soldiers anymore!

This section is simple, if a bit weird. Essentially, this is an on-rails fight where you will only be able to move Samus up, down, left and right.

For this phase, shoot Sylux as the two of you fall and watch for him to summon energy blades out of the walls. You’ll have just enough time to dodge them if you point the Left Stick in the opposite direction. Additionally, Sylux will attack with some blaster shots and a psychic whip, both of which can be dodged by moving to the opposite side he launches the move from.

The only trick is Sylux’s arsenal is a pair of spinning blades that cannot be avoided normally. To stop from taking damage, guide a Control Beam through the spinning blades and hit Sylux in the back to stun him out of this move!

Shooting Sylux will produce quite a bit of health pick-up, so this is a good time to recover from any damage suffered in Phase One.

Keep blasting at Sylux until he hits about 50 percent health remaining to push him to the final phase.

Phase Three

Phase three is going to play out similarly to the previous two encounters with Sylux in the game. He will be damageable at any time, but will launch a variety of moves at you during this phase. The key to beating him here is understanding his moveset and knowing when to punish him.

Here’s a breakdown of his attacks:

Attack

Description

Energy Slam

Sylux strikes the ground, launching a massive shock wave in all directions that you need to double jump over.

Energy Beam

Sylux will fire a solid beam at torso length, 180 degrees in front of him. You can avoid this by going into Morph Ball form. Eventually, he will start mixing in Energy Beams at feet level you have to jump over.

Energy Rush

He launches forward, releasing a wave of energy in front of him. This can be dodged by going into Morph Ball form and rolling underneath him.

Energy Wave

Sylux rakes the ground with his gun, launching a small vertical wave of energy in front of him. You can dodge this by dashing either left or right before it hits.

Grab

Sylux moves to the middle of the map and begins charging his cannon. At full charge, he will launch an energy whip that latches onto Samus. Avoid this by going into Morph Ball and continuously boosting around the edge of the ring.

Beam Absorption

Sylux teleports around the map, absorbing all attacks into what looks like a giant eye. Activate your visor and fire a Control Beam into his body to stun him out of this move.

Morph Ball Steal

Sylux turns into a Morph Ball and rams into you, stealing an Energy Tank. You can ram back into him via the Boost Ball to knock it from him and claim it.

Electric Barriers

While in Morph Ball mode, Sylux leaves electrical barriers you need to roll around to avoid.

When the fight starts, switch to your element of choice and begin shooting Sylux as he moves around the arena. He will mostly stick to a mix of the Energy Beam, Rush, Slam, and Wave during the first part of this battle. They are all fairly easy to avoid as long as you keep your distance from him.

Ensuring you’re not close will give you ample time to avoid his attacks, as they often have long wind-ups, which can cue you in on how to dodge. Focus on peppering him with Missiles or elemental shots until he goes into his Morph Ball form.

When this happens, Sylux will begin charging up his own boost and launch himself at you. If he hits, Sylux will both stun you and knock an Energy Tank from your body. He will then steal it and roll around the arena. Use your Boost Ball to catch up and ram into him with it. This will cause him to release the Energy Tank and give you enough time to drop some bombs next to his body.

Once recovering from his stun, he will usually switch back to his human form. Switch back with him and resume dodging his attacks while draining his health bar.

Eventually, Sylux will teleport out of the arena and back in with his cannon raised to the sky. If you see the eye-shaped energy forming above him, switch to your visor and shoot a charged Control Beam at him. This is the only move that won’t be absorbed by his attack! Just remember, you need to guide the shot into Sylux himself, not where he is forming the attack.

The rest of the fight won’t change too drastically, as Sylux sticks to the moves listed above and just increases the number of times he launches them at once. This makes him actually pretty easy to deal with, since he won’t really introduce any big gimmicks or new moves the lower he gets.

Once you defeat Sylux, a cutscene will play, and you’ll have finally reached the very end of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond!
