How To Defeat Plant 42 In Resident Evil Requiem

Leon’s journey through Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem is a nostalgic victory lap for the hardened action hero. After experiencing the T-Virus outbreak as a rookie cop all those years ago, Leon has lived with the trauma of the people he couldn’t save ahead of Umbrella dropping a bomb on the place to cover up its own mistakes.

But several decades later he is older, tougher, and more determined than ever before, and ready to avoid repeating the same mistakes. And what better way to ring in this reunion than with loads of old bosses coming back from the grave for another round? There’s the giant spider, Mr X, and now Plant 42 blocking your way into The Ark. Here’s how to take it down.

How To Defeat Plant 42

Leon stumbles across an abandoned train in Resident Evil Requiem.

Your battle against Plant 42 begins when you enter the abandoned Raccoon City orphanage and continue into the ruined subway tunnels below. Keep on following the critical path, and it won’t be long until Leon has to move through a ruined train car hanging off a cliff.

There are no enemy encounters in this section, so continue forth and make sure to look in every conceivable direction for potential resources and collectibles. Once Leon gets to the end of the suspended train, Plant 42 will burst through the windows before one of its myriad heads emerges to attack.

Each plant head telegraphs its attacks by lunging forward, giving Leon just enough time to parry with the shoulder button. They deal heavy damage so keep this in mind.

Try your best to parry incoming attacks until the plant head finally opens up and makes itself vulnerable. You will only have a few seconds to attack before it closes up and goes after you again, so equip a powerful weapon to deal as much damage as possible.

Once defeated, the train will collapse off the cliff as Leon stylishly leaps his way to the very bottom and immediately cracks a lame joke. Keep heading downward and pick up all items you stumble across along the way, since you’ll need them.

You will eventually stumble upon a supply box containing ammunition and a thick metal cable left behind by the BSAA that Leon can use to rappel downwards to The Ark and the nexus of Plant 42. Keep your flashlight on and continue moving forward.

The tunnels are filled with smaller tendrils that will come to life and attack just like they did on the train. In these close-quarters situations, don’t be afraid to parry and unleash hell when the plant heads open themselves wide. It only takes a few shotgun blasts to take them out.

The plant heads will stay closed for a few seconds before opening to attack, so keep your weapon aimed and ready to take action.

Continue moving through the tunnel system and taking out plant heads as they emerge, and make sure not to neglect brief diversions in the path where breakable crates and other items await.

Leon will soon come across a clearing with The Ark’s entrance obscured in the distance. A duo of tentacles is blocking the way you will rise up once you get closer.

In order to kill them, aim at the plant heads protruding from their masses and take them out just like all the others. However, be aware that these tentacles are capable of slamming down on you.

Two more will follow, and once those are taken care of, jump off the ledge and prepare for the final battle. Grab items from the crate to your right immediately, since you won’t have time to do so once Plant 42 emerges from the undergrowth.

You don’t have a lot of room to move around in this combat arena, and so it can often feel like there is no way of avoiding Plant 42’s unpredictable attacks.

My advice is to continually strafe from side to side in the shape of an infinity symbol, which allows you to avoid tentacles that constantly slam down and cause damage.

Plant 42 will open its central head between tentacle attacks, allowing you to deal massive amounts of damage if you’re fast enough.

Requiem is the best weapon of choice here if you have enough ammo stockpiled, since it not only deals a lot of punishment, but also staggers the enemy and gives you time to reload.

Keep on dealing damage until a storage container beneath Plant 42 opens to reveal lots of flammable gas canisters. Shoot them, and the job is done.
