How To Defeat Fortain, The Cursed Knight In Crimson Desert

How To Defeat Fortain, The Cursed Knight In Crimson Desert

Fortain, The Cursed Knight is yet another tricky boss in Crimson Desert. His massive shield blocks incoming damage unless you stagger him, and the arena is full of other soldiers that will fire their ridiculously large muskets at you while you try and fight. Fortain also spawns two massive spectral beings to assist him in the fight, which can’t be killed.

This guide covers how I prepared for the fight – including gear and food – and a detailed overview of the different mechanics in the boss fight. Like many of the other bosses in the game, the most important factor is food. If you have enough food, you’ll be able to win.

Fortain Preparation

Gear set before Fortain in Crimson Desert.

I’m still running tier four and five gear at this point, because upgrades start to cost quite a lot of resources – as well as Bloodstones and Abyss Artifacts, which are rarer. However, I didn’t find the gear to be letting me down here, though I will definitely need to start upgrading my pieces to improve my defense as I progress.

  • Tier four Canta Plate Helm
  • Tier five Canta Plate Armor
  • Tier three Grey Wolf Bow
  • Tier four Hernandian Noble Cloak
  • Tier five Tauria Curved Sword
  • Tier four Sunset Reed Gloves
  • Tier four Odecka’s Plate shoes
  • Tier three and four jewelry

Currently, my sword has three Abyss cores socketed: Crow’s Pursuit, Crimson Rose Of Sin, and Wind Slash. You can socket cores from other unique boss weapons or Sealed Abyss Artifact challenge awards at the Witch, located in Hernand’s The Witchwoods. I find Crow’s Pursuit to be the most useful, as the crows will follow Fortain and damage him even after he retreats.

In terms of skills, my Kliff build is purely Sword and Shield with that skill path maxxed out. I also dump most of my other points into pure Health, Stamina and Spirit buffs. Nature’s Echo in the Spirit tree is massively useful, as it creates an echo of your attacks to deal extra damage when you manage to get some hits in.

Food Preparation

I’ve started making Hearty Meat Skewers as these provide solid health regeneration and Spirit regeneration and only cost meat and vegetables to produce. At this point, my inventory is 140 slots full, and I make sure to hold on to vegetables like potatoes I find to make the food, as well as hunt deer in the wild to stock up on Fine Meat.

As well as this, I buy Chewy Rice Cakes and Meat Porridge every day from Ronnie at the Greymane Camp to build up a stockpile of secondary food. I burned through a lot in this fight, so I will need to spend a bit of time rebuilding my food supplies before attempting another big boss fight.

Fortain Boss Mechanics Guide

Fortain Spectral being in Crimson Desert.

Fortain is big, lumbering, and hits hard. But he also moves quite fast. At this point, I’m getting used to the way Crimson Desert’s bosses behave, and how to counter them. Much like the others, the key here is to remain patient, block where necessary, and preserve your stamina to dodge Fortain’s largest attacks.

Due to Fortain’s large shield, you will need to use Force Palm to stagger the boss, and chain RT attacks to deal damage. With a combination of Force Palm, Blinding Light, and spammed attacks, you can whittle him down quite quickly.

His actual combat mechanics aren’t as complex as previous bosses. He has a charge attack and may corner you, but generally his moves are quite easy to dodge, and if you manage a successful parry, you can get some extra damage on him.

Tactics may vary depending on your weapon of choice, and I’m sure there are many viable ways to defeat this boss. I just used Sword and Shield.

Spectral Beings

During the fight, Fortain will spawn two different spectral beings: one with a massive axe that will swing down and damage you, and another that fires a crossbow at you. These can’t be damaged, so they must be dodged. Both attack two or three times before disappearing.

Arena Soldiers

On the edge of the arena there are several musket soldiers. If you can, you should take these out, because they fire large fireball musket shots that will stagger you and knock you over, which is hardly what you need in a fight as chaotic as this.
