How To Defeat Dack In Mewgenics

How To Defeat Dack In Mewgenics

Welcome to the second act of Mewgenics, where everything is deadlier, some enemies are impossible to get near, and some will outright kill you if you get too close. If you thought the first act was a bit of a fun challenge, you’re in for a treat with this one, and we’d expect nothing less. Fortunately, with a bit of knowledge, strategy, and lots of luck, you can get through the scorching Desert and into new areas.

First, you will likely have to get through Dack, one of the mini-bosses in the region, who will seemingly evade everything you throw at him, steal your money, and poison you. Yeah, we’re starting to think we’re not welcome in the Desert either, but we must get stronger cats with more unique abilities, and nothing can stop us now, not even this cartwheeling, knife-throwing, Thief!

Dack Overview

As mentioned up top, Dack is a mid-way point mini-boss in the Desert region of Mewgenics, which is the first area in the second act. While he only has a handful of moves like most of the other bosses, his gimmicks are much harder to deal with, and he deals substantially more damage than the ones before him. Lock in and get ready for a battle to the death with this one; he’s a real handful.

But, you know the drill, we must toss our personal go-to units at you, while also giving you the rundown on this Dack character. While he is a noticeable leap in difficulty, he doesn’t feel impossible or unfair, and once you figure out his gimmick, you will be painting the Desert sand with his blood. What? He deserves it, just look at what he does!

Potential Drops

Due to all the mini-bosses and final bosses having RNG drops, we will be updating the table above with more items once we face Dack more times and earn more goodies by defeating him. You will probably get completely different drops than we did, but we will try to include all possible rewards in the table to showcase all the possibilities!

Okay, now it’s time for the units, and we say don’t try anything too drastic here, the tried and true Thief, Tank, Hunter, and Cleric will be more than enough to take Dack down in combat. Fight fire with fire, we say. Since Dack is a Thief, you should also be a Thief, not only because it’s cool, but because you will hopefully have the ability to bait out his evasion, then teleport behind him for a devastating strike immediately after.

Aside from that, your Hunter will also come in clutch, as they can force Dack to spend his Backflips with filler shots before landing the real-deal on him for big damage. Your Tank can also help draw aggro and absorb the more troublesome attacks from Dack, letting your Cleric keep everyone’s health filled to the max to avoid headaches once Dack gets on a roll!

How To Defeat Dack

Unlike most bosses so far, Dack actually has quite a few attacks and actions at his disposal, which is what makes him so frustrating to deal with. The moment you think you have him figured out, he will slip out of your grasp, poison you, and then roll far away from you just to do it all over again. But it doesn’t have to be that way, and we will show you how to get him to show his hand early and punish him over and over again, completely trivializing what makes him so dang annoying!

Dack – Throwing Knife

Dack executing his Throwing Knife ability against the Tank cat in Mewgenics.

A fairly common action of Dack’s is his Throwing Knife, allowing him to hurl a sharp blade across many tiles in any cardinal direction, dealing decent damage to its target. Since there’s no tall grass to hide in, there’s no real way to evade this, so try to have your Tank in front of him to pull aggro and take the hit, as their armor will absorb most of the damage.

While he uses this move to deal damage to your units, Dack also uses this attack to have you drop a Coin on the ground. We will touch on that a bit later, but you should try your best to reclaim your Coins before he can get to them. Additionally, if your Tank has the ability to swap places with a friendly unit to take incoming damage, use that often during this fight!

Your Turn – Baiting Dack’s Backflip And Punishing It

Now it’s your turn, and you’re likely scratching your head when it comes to finding a way to deal damage to this guy. Fortunately, your Hunter will likely have many ways to do just that. When their turn is up, have them lob a filler shot at him, which should be your least-damaging attack. This will force Dack to use his Backflip, evading the attack entirely as he rolls onto a different tile.

Since he spent his Backflip, you can now launch your real attacks at him, guaranteeing damage. We strongly recommend using abilities that launch Familiars such as Fleas at him, as they will also attack him, potentially having him spend his Backflips if he ever recovers them. Use this tactic often, as you can deal large amounts of damage this way!

If your Thief has a projectile, such as their own Throwing Knife, and Dack still has his Backflip, move directly in front of him and use it on him to have him roll out of the way. From there, teleport behind him and backstab him for unbelievable amounts of damage. Repeat this and the steps above until he’s finished. It shouldn’t take too long at that rate!

Dack – Coins Grant More Backflips

Dack rushing toward a Coin on the ground, restoring one of his Backflips if he picks it up in Mewgenics.

Remember when we said to pick up your Coins if he hits you with a Throwing Knife? Now it’s time to explain why, as Dack will make it his top priority to snatch them off the ground, as they replenish his Backflips, allowing him to evade incoming attacks. If he cannot pick up Coins, he can no longer evade, making every attack a guarantee, so you no longer have to toss out a fake attack first, then the real one after.

So, whenever possible, if he knocks a Coin out of you via his Throwing Knife, try recovering it ASAP before he can, as you will be able to unleash many more attacks on him without worrying about him dodging the first one entirely. You can also use it as bait to get him to come closer to you, but we recommend doing this only if your build is great at baiting out his Backflip as well, allowing you to punish him adequately!

Dack – Poison Stab

Dack executing his Poison Stab on the back of the Tank cat, inflicting poison on them instantly in Mewgenics.

Finally, we have his Poison Stab, which he really only uses when he’s already close to your units. This attack has him plunge a Poison-covered knife into one of your units, instantly inflicting them with Poison, having them take damage at the start of their turn for a prolonged period. If this happens, ensure your Cleric is nearby to offer heals when needed, as it can get pretty nasty if left unchecked.

Outside of that, you can’t really do much to evade it, except for hopefully having your Tank intercept it or draw aggro beforehand. Nonetheless, it shouldn’t be the thing that ends the run, as if you’re keeping track of his Backflips and preventing him from earning more, you will have him wishing you never rolled up!
