How To Create A Dedicated Server In StarRupture

Multiplayer gaming in StarRupture turns sci-fi survival into a shared experience where teamwork is just as important as technology. While the tutorial is a single-player mode, playing cooperatively allows up to four players to inhabit the same hostile planet and manage the growing demands of exploration, base building, and defense.

Be as ambitious as you want while sharing roles and creating a smooth-running operation, and tackling enemies as a group. Your life on this alien landscape could get that bit easier. Read on to see how to enter StarRupture as a team.

How To Create A Multiplayer Server

When playing co-op in StarRupture, you need to decide which player will be the host. The host is the person who sets up and creates the game and is responsible for inviting everyone else. When creating the game, the host can choose between ‘Invite Only’ and ‘Friends Only’. The only difference between these options is that with ‘Invite Only’, the host will have to physically invite you to the session, and it prevents other Steam friends from joining on their own.

To invite a player, the host has to enter the game and press ‘Esc’ to bring up the menu. From here, on the right, they will see their username and three empty slots. They have to select one of these slots and invite someone via the Steam option that will automatically pop up. The player will get a notification via Steam with a link to join the game.

The game session will be saved on the host’s computer, and while this usually means others can only play when the host allows, there is an option to keep the server open to everyone at all times. This is called SaveSync.

Multiplayer games are limited to four players: the host and three other players. At the moment, this limit cannot be increased.

StarRupture: Beginner Tips

StarRupture can be quite a daunting game if you’re not used to factory simulators, but it can get much easier if you keep a few things in mind.

How To Use SaveSync As Host To Play Offline

SaveSync is a software used by players on Steam to ‘keep co-op worlds alive’ when the host is offline. It allows you to join and play the game in the same cooperative world without the host, and is available to purchase on Steam itself.

After installing the software and saving the game, exit StarRupture and launch SaveSync from your Steam Library. When the software opens, select StarRupture from the left-hand side and click New Save on the right. All of your saved sessions will appear, select the one you want and click Create Save.

The save will start to sync, and you will know when it’s completed because it will show a green tick. Select the Share icon (which is six options across from the tick) and find your teammates’ Steam username. Click on the username and share.

After the host has synced the correct save file and shared it with you, open SaveSync via your Steam Library. If done correctly, you will see the shared save file in your game list when clicking on StarRupture in SaveSync. Select Activate on the shared save file, and this will make it available for you to use without the host.

Anyone on the team wanting to use the same world when the host is offline will also need to purchase and install SaveSync.
