Aggro deck popularity in Magic: The Gathering is on the up, and a big reason for this is the deck diversity possible in 2026. No longer is it a simple case of throwing cheap creatures out and hoping they do damage, but now there are entire mechanical strategies you can use to overcome your opponent.
This mono-green deck uses the landfall mechanic to turn weak-looking creatures into major threats in just a few turns, and all it takes is the terrifyingly simple strategy of getting lands into play.
Mono-Green Landfall Deck List
Like aggro decks, this landfall deck is extremely compact, meaning there aren’t too many card names to keep track of, just 13, in fact, not including basic lands. This deck shares a lot of DNA with the Gruul Landfall deck, but is a bit more basic in that it sticks to just using one mana source.
The split between spells and creatures is also eye-opening, with 32 creature cards compared to just three sorceries and one enchantment, although this can change if you choose to make some tweaks we suggest later on.

Magic: The Gathering – Mono-Red Aggro Standard 2026 Deck Guide
Mono-Red Aggro is one of the most persistent decks in Magic: The Gathering’s Standard format.
How This Mono-Green Landfall Deck Works
For those unaware, landfall is an ability that is triggered when a land you own hits the battlefield, but what happens when landfall is triggered can be different depending on the card.
In the case of Sazh’s Chocobo, when a land hits the battlefield, it gets a +1/+1 counter, meaning that the more lands you can play each turn, the more counters it gets, and despite starting as a 0/1 creature, it can become quite the hulking beast very quickly.
While this deck encourages a fast-paced playstyle, be sure to take your time and ensure your moves are correct; your entire game could be at risk if not.
This entire deck is built around finding ways to make land cards hit the battlefield multiple times per turn. This includes with cards such as Fabled Passage, which counts as a land when played, and then searches for a basic land when activated, which triggers landfall a second time.
Landfall can be devastating if allowed to ramp up quickly, which is evident by some of the activations seen in this deck:
- Mossborn Hydra – Enters with a +1/+1 counter and has its counters doubled each time a land is played.
- Bristly Bill, Spine Sower – Puts a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
- Tifa Lockhart – Power is doubled until the end of the turn.
- Icetill Explorer – Mills a card, but lets you play land cards from your graveyard.
Landfall isn’t the only mechanic in play, either, as earthbend is also extremely prominent. This turns a basic land into a creature with haste until the end of the turn, with its power and toughness determined by the card that activated it.
As an example, Rockalanche earthbends for X, where X is the number of forests you control, meaning if you activate this and control ten forests, one target forest will become a 10/10 creature until the end of the turn.
Ideal Starting Hands
An ideal starting hand for this deck will include two copies of Sazh’s Chocobo, a copy of Llanowar Elves, two fetch lands, and two basic lands.
While it doesn’t need to be this exact structure, you certainly want a healthy land supply to start and creatures you can play on turn one.
The most common turn one and two we like playing with this deck is a land into Llanowar Elves on turn one, before starting turn two by playing two copies of Sazh’s Chocobo (using Llanowar Elves to pay for the second), and then playing and activating a copy of Fabled Passage. This immediately puts the copies of Sazh’s Chocobo at 2/3 on turn two, and they’ll only grow from there.
Having two copies down early also forces your opponent to decide on methods of removal, as they’re unlikely to have an answer for both cards so early.
Changes You Can Make
One obvious issue with this deck could be the use of legendary creatures in bulk, as you can only have one copy of a unique legendary creature active on the battlefield at any time.
On MTG Arena, you can play a second copy of a legendary like Tifa Lockhart, but you’ll be asked to sacrifice one as soon as it resolves.
One way around this would be to reduce the copies of all legendaries in the deck to two at most, but you’ll want to find suitable replacements that don’t mess with the synergy of the deck.
Alternatives for this mono-green landfall deck include:
- Elfsworn Giant – A 5/3 giant with reach, and it creates a 1/1 elf token as its landfall activation.
- Eumidian Terrabotanist – A 2/3 insect with a landfall that gives you one life point.
- Ride the Shoopuf – An enchantment that grants a +1/+1 counter on a target creature upon landfall, but can also transform into a 7/7 beast for a large mana cost.
If you’re going to make any swaps to this deck, try to keep them simple and refrain from introducing too many new cards, as that will start to widen the pool of possibilities when drawing a card, and you may find yourself hoping to top-deck a certain card that is less likely to show up.
