How To Beat Lyle’s Second Boss Fight In Code Vein 2

How To Beat Lyle’s Second Boss Fight In Code Vein 2

All of the heroes in Code Vein 2 have some tragic backstory for you to witness, and ideally rectify. And while we can’t strictly compare, Lyle is the one who probably feels the most alone, despite being surrounded by people who care the most.

He is lonesome, and feels like a burden, afraid to ask for help. So it is nice, at least, that in fixing his past, you fix this pretty major character flaw, too. Too bad that makes him a much harder boss to defeat in the present, though

Where Is Hero Lyle Fought?

You first fight the One-Armed Hero Lyle at Forward Base One, the final site of the Dawn Chorus. It’s a bitter place for Lyle, where all his comrades perished. So once you change his history, this thankfully takes on a much more pleasant turn.

Lyle’s cocoon moves to Pioneer Castle, the current home of the Dawn Chorus. Craig also insists on being brought to this battle, to help give Lyle his final rest. Just interact with the cocoon to grant his wish.

Hero Lyle’s Moveset

Lyle has two phases to deal with, like most bosses in the game, though the most difficult aspect of the fight to actually deal with is his ability to combo. Lyle can string just about all of his moves together into a combo.

This means what might be a regular three slash attack may have a retreating slash added to the end, or the third hit is replaced with a charged downward slash. Many of these moves can also have variable delays added to them, so you can’t build a dependable rhythm or pattern with him.

Here are all of his basic moves across both phases:

  • Phase One

    Move

    Description

    Delayed Overhead Slash

The boss reels back both swords before slashing after a long delay. This can be followed up with another quick slash, and then another where they leap back a short distance.

    Double Advancing Slash

The boss pulls both swords to one side before dashing forward towards you with a quick slash.

Triple Alternating Slashes + Piercing Attack

The boss performs three slashes while moving side-to-side.

The third hit can be a delayed downwards, or followed up with a quick leap back and then immediately performing a stabbing attack towards you.

    Delayed Slash Combo

The boss performs a series of slashes, all of which can be delayed. Can be comboed into a retreating slash or piercing attack

    Spinning Retreating Slash

The boss charges up both swords before performing a spin attack that also lets them move away from you a short distance.

  • Phase Two

    Move

    Description

    Lightning Imbuement

The vast majority of the boss’ attacks now have the lightning element applied to them, or lightning aftereffects.

    Lightning Alternating Slashes

Like in the first phase, but now leaves a brief arc of lightning in the air, as well as causes lightning bolt to rain now in the aftermath of the attack.

    Advancing Lightning Bolts

The boss performs a quick sash that generates a series of lightning bolts. After a moment, these quickly spread out across the arena in a straight line.

    Lightning Dash

The boss charges with lightning and moves a great distance while attacking.

    Lightning Arc

The boss performs a quick slash that causes lighting bolts to strike in front of them, and then performs another slash that sends out a wave of lightning.

    Lightning Strikes

The boss can summon lightning strikes to periodically strike where you’re standing. The boss remains mobile during this and can perform other attacks.

    Executioner Slash

The boss can use the Executioner’s Blade to perform a heavy attack. This isn’t used often as it is much slower than the boss’ other moves, but can deal heavy damage.

This is either done as the final slash of a three-hit combo, or as part of a spinning attack.

    Staff Swing

The boss pulls a staff out of the air and performs a quick swipe with it, hitting a wide area.

    Lightning Cross-slash

The boss slashes twice, creating a cross of lightning before sending it forward to hit its target.

The number of moves available to Lyle in the first phase may seem quite limited, but the means in which they can be strung together makes them much harder to predict than you might imagine. They tend to focus more on lightning strikes in second phase, making it easy to form a pattern of attacks.

How To Beat Hero Lyle

Phase One

In the first phase, it helps to take down Lyle’s health as quickly as possible, and this requires aggression. A fast weapon is very helpful here to build up Bleed to recharge Ichor quickly and so you can deal damage and get out at a moment’s notice.

That said, a heavier weapon or using Charged Heavy attacks is a great choice too when you get the chance, as these build up a massive amount of stagger.

You don’t want to be passive here because Lyle can easily catch you, so it’s worth keeping close where you can. A decent few of his sword attacks can be parried too, though the delayed strikes tend to be too powerful, so dodging is still the better option if you can’t predictably figure out the timing on his attacks.

Craig also gives you the Blade of the Executioner for this fight, though it’s pretty ineffective. It can deal very high damage, but you need a massive amount of Balance to survive even a single hit from Lyle, and a second is basically guaranteed to cancel the attack. Since the Blade of the Executioner only deals effective damage with multiple extended hits, Lyle is simply too fast.

On the opposite end, the Bloodreaver Blade is very useful. All of its damage comes in a single hit, and it even moves a short distance to track your target, which is helpful for how much Lyle moves. If you can get the perfectly timed release while paired with the Devotion Booster, around five or five uses can fully deplete his health. That’s both phases.

Phase Two

Once Lyle reaches around 50% HP, he shifts into his second phase. It retains all of the moves from the first phase, and adds in a bunch more lightning moves, as well as a few attacks with the Executioner’s Blade.

For the most part, we’re applying the same tactics as the first phase. Keep close and be aggressive so Lyle can’t overwhelm you. But he can move much farther and faster now, and the constant lightning strikes makes it harder to get close to him.

That said, he relies on more formulaic lightning strikes now, rather than making custom combos, which at least makes him easier to plan for, even if his attacks are more powerful.

An obvious accompaniment to this phase is some form of electric resistance to reduce the damage you’re taking. Many of Lyle’s ranged attacks in this phase are purely electric, so this is where you’ll get the most benefit.

Once you’ve defeated him, you’ll be given the Hero Lyle Blood Code as a reward.
