As gamers, we’re all very well aware of the update patch that manages to make a game worse instead of better. No single game is more emblematic of that than Monster Hunter Wilds, where seemingly every new patch meant to do something positive ended up having a negative effect.
However, have you heard of a patch that suddenly makes an already notoriously difficult game that much more difficult? Because that’s exactly what happened with the original Hollow Knight following its free PlayStation 5 upgrade.
For years, Hollow Knight had an “invincibility” glitch that went unpatched. It made the game a lot easier, and took the Platinum Trophy from “Impossible” to “Mostly Possible.” However, via the Update 1.03 patch, it’s now seemingly gone, according to multiple users.
“Good thing I was able to get the Platinum with the glitch before this,” one user wrote. “The mere idea of having to fight Markoth with that god awful idea is enough to give me an aneurysm.”

Why Hollow Knight: Silksong Wasn’t The Game I Wanted It To Be After So Much Hype
Turns out I don’t need to play Hollow Knight: Silksong to fall in love with its world and characters.
Where things get particularly funny, is the self-described difficulty rating moving from a 9 to a full 10, as more and more people found out that the glitch no longer exists.
For what it’s worth, at least two people have already achieved the PS5 Platinum in the time since it went live. That’s as phenomenal as it gets, especially considering, unlike some PS4 to PS5 upgrades, there isn’t an auto-pop.
Jokes Aside, Team Cherry Wasn’t Against The Glitch, At Least That We Know Of
As far as we’re aware, Team Cherry was also seemingly aware of what was ongoing and let it pass. It’s unclear why that is exactly, but it might have something to do with speedrunners.
That said, Team Cherry has been one to mostly stand behind its notoriously difficult product. In a book that was published following Silksong’s long-awaited release, developer Ari Gibson explained some of the rationale behind things.
“Silksong has some moments of steep difficulty – but part of allowing a higher level of freedom within the world means that you have choices all the time about where you’re going and what you’re doing.”
Still, faced with some harsh criticism, some changes were eventually brought into the fold, including nerfing the flea dodge minigame. Another patch dealt with environmental hazards, with more things being made equal than the patch let on to boot.
As it stands, it’s unclear whether that invincibility glitch was patched out on purpose or by accident and whether it’ll return. Some players are attempting to reverse patch their game or are seeking a physical copy to play an unpatched version. Best of luck to them we suppose.
