Halo PS5 Remake Makes The Library Level Less Annoying

While it’s been happening for a while, Halo: Campaign Evolved launching on PlayStation will be looked at as the official ending on Xbox exclusivity. Microsoft has been reshaping Xbox’s strategy from a console-first one to a platform-first approach, with many exclusives launching on PlayStation, but Halo is undoubtedly the biggest one of them all.

Like any remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved will look to improve things from the original, not only when it comes to visuals, but gameplay and quality of life improvements as well. However, there was one segment in the original Halo: Combat Evolved that will get some extra additions because it was really annoying to get through.

Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Library Level Is Getting More Changes

Veteran gamers will know that The Library was one of the most frustrating levels in Combat Evolved. It was filled with relentless waves of Flood enemies, limited ammo drops, and very few checkpoints. Not to mention that everything looked the same, making it feel like Master Chief was stuck in some sort of nightmarish limbo. It seems Campaign evolved will be making a few tweaks to improve the experience.

While the levels will mostly remain as you remember them, Creative Director Max Szlagor revealed in a blog post that the team will be making some enhancements, especially the infamous Library segment. “We learned from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary that there was still an appetite for things like better wayfinding, navigation, and diversity in enemy encounters,” he said.

“In The Library specifically, which features several Flood encounters, we wanted to reevaluate the pacing and enhance the environmental storytelling. We’ve added new lines to Guilty Spark, which guide players through the level, and there’s new dialogue that gives more insight into the narrative as it plays out.”

However, he emphasized that these enhancements have not come at the cost of the story in any way. They simply add a bit more context and ensure that the player is able to keep track of where they are. Certain other levels may also see changes like these, but they won’t affect the nostalgia from Combat Evolved in any way.
