Hades 2‘s 1.0 launch finally revealed the game’s true ending, which I won’t spoil here. Much like the first title, Melinoe needs to complete multiple runs of the underworld and surface path in order to see the final ending and rid the world of the time tyrant Chronos. Unfortunately, this true ending didn’t live up to the expectations of fans.
With the amount of grinding required on two separate fronts, players were expecting a jaw-dropping conclusion that the game didn’t really deliver. Several plot points were left unresolved as well, like Hypnos’ story. In order to fix this lack of a gratifying ending Supergiant has changed things up in its first patch after the game’s full launch.
Hades 2 Patch 1 Changes The True Ending
The patch notes for the update reveal several changes and balances to blessings and boons, but the stand-out change is arguably the revised version of the true ending. Supergiant isn’t shy about changing this after the backlash Hades 2 received for its true ending, and it has also added a feature that lets you experience it without grinding all over again.
“Added new events in the lead-up to the True Ending, and some after,” say the patch notes. “As part of this, increased the number of Underworld clears required, and added to and revised parts of the main True Ending scenes before the end credits. Note: The vast majority of changes are to the Underworld route; the Surface route is mostly unchanged.”
The update also introduces a new cauldron incantation that allows you to return to an earlier point in the story and experience the new changes to the true ending, along with other interactions. The change isn’t just to the ending cinematic, but also to several prior interactions in order to make it more gratifying.
While Supergiant is known for constantly improving upon its games, changing the entire true ending after fan feedback is a massive decision which has been greatly appreciated. Fans on Reddit have welcomed this update, especially after feeling a bit burnt by the previous version. You can be sure that Hades 2’s player count is going to get a boost after this.
The new true ending is only available as a preview for now, so you can expect further improvements in… time (heh).
