After being hit with another six-month delay, we now won’t be playing Grand Theft Auto 6 until November 19, 2026, at the very earliest. That also means GTA 6 is now a part of a rare club filled with games that have been exactly one year away from releasing on two separate occasions.
That’s right, everyone. Somehow, we’re back here again. On May 26, 2025, those of us excited for GTA 6 – and there are a lot of us, probably more than there have been for any other game in human history, even Hollow Knight: Silksong – we celebrated and commiserated Rockstar’s next big game being 12 months away. Celebrated because there was only a year to go, but commiserating because we had already been waiting for so long.

Happy GTA 6 Is One Year Away Day, How Have We Wound Up Back Here Again?
Little did we know that almost six months later, it would quite literally feel as if no time had passed. Today is November 19, 2025, which means we are, once again, a full year away from playing GTA 6 for the first time. On that hopeful, but also a little jaded, day back in May, we were actually looking down the barrel of an 18-month wait for GTA 6.
Hey, maybe even Rockstar didn’t know that at the time, but I have my doubts.
Various Rockstar fan accounts and those who continue to track the progress of GTA 6 have been taking to social media today to remind everyone that, like some sort of video game Groundhog Day, we are here again. Most of those posts are also quick to highlight that this might not be the last time GTA 6 is a whole year away, either, considering the little we know about what’s going on behind the scenes, an additional delay is still very possible.
From Take-Two Interactive’s perspective, Rockstar’s parent company, the GTA 6 delays likely aren’t a problem until one of them potentially pushes the juggernaut into a different financial year. That’s why, despite it being six months and likely costing a lot of money for the extra development time, Take-Two is probably fine with the move from May to November. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said as much, noting that he has never regretted a delay and that more studios should be open to it.
That’s why, if GTA 6 still isn’t where it needs to be six months from now, I wouldn’t be surprised if its release wound up getting pushed into early 2027. I mean early, though, as anything after March 31 would mean it launches in the following fiscal year, something that, despite how laidback Zelnick might seem about delays, would cause quite the headache for Take-Two.
For now, though, we can tentatively assume we really will all be playing GTA 6 exactly one year from now. 365 days left to go. Grab one of those calendars where you rip off the date each day, and once you get to the end of it, it’ll be GTA 6 time. Unless there is another delay, in which case that calendar will need to go in the bin. Whenever we hit the one-year away mark a third time, I’ll be back here to remind you to buy another one so we can start all over again.
