Despite Rockstar’s tight security and mandates, we got a massive GTA 6 gameplay footage leak in September 2022. The leaker, Arion Kurtaj was already on bail for hacking, and this infraction saw him go to prison in the UK. However, it seems that they have reportedly managed to smuggle in a phone and just dropped another bombshell.
According to videotechuk_ (a.k.a ben), Kurtaj has claimed that the source code for GTA 6 is allegedly in the wild but hasn’t been leaked yet. If this is true, it means that one of the most highly anticipated games of all time could see cheap knockoffs coming in very soon.
GTA 6 Source Code Could Reportedly Be Leaked Soon
“Now it’s slowly spreading: Arion Kurtaj (the infamous 2022 Grand Theft Auto VI leaker) has allegedly smuggled a phone into a UK prison,” said the tweet. “While I won’t share screenshots of the WhatsApp chats (I’m sure they’ll appear soon), Arion appeared surprised that the source code for Grand Theft Auto VI did not leak and seemed to imply that the source code may potentially be in the hands of someone.”
There are several things to consider here. Firstly, Kurtaj allegedly relayed this information from prison, via a smuggled phone. This information isn’t exactly easy to verify. Next, while the Whatsapp messages from Kurtaj do suggest that someone has the GTA 6 source code, screenshots haven’t been revealed yet. A recreated exchange shows two users talking to the hacker, where he says the GTA 6 source code is “definitely somewhere.” He then asked if it got leaked online and refused to comment after he was told it wasn’t.
Given the magnitude of the original leak, it’s quite possible that the source code is in the hands of someone who shouldn’t be having it. Although, it’s hard to verify the facts thanks to the way this story has unfolded. As for why the source code hasn’t leaked as of yet, someone is likely to pay big bucks for it if it has truly been leaked.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this story and update it as it develops.
