Rockstar Games and PlayStation have seemingly killed the PS Store IDs for Grand Theft Auto 6, just days after they were revealed and hackers used them to pretend they were playing the game.
The past few months may have been incredibly quiet for GTA 6 news outside of Take-Two confirming the November release date for the millionth time, but things did get a bit more exciting over the weekend. Reliable data analyst PlayStationSize discovered that GTA 6’s title IDs had been added to the PlayStation Store backend, suggesting that news might be inbound.
Even though this was likely just Rockstar and PlayStation getting ahead of the summer curve, that didn’t stop everyone from speculating that a big announcement was being prepped. Whether or not that is the case, Rockstar has already responded to the leak and started taking it down, ruining some hackers’ fun in the process.
Rockstar Has Removed GTA 6’s Title IDs From The PlayStation Store
No More Pretending You’ve Played GTA 6 For An Hour
As highlighted by Twitter user videotechuk_ and originally pointed out by yAmethxst, Rockstar and PlayStation recently removed the title IDs that were linked to GTA 6 on the PS Store. Whether this means they’re going to be changed before launch or not is unknown, but it does show that Rockstar’s well aware of what’s been going on.
As hyper-aware as Rockstar is about any kind of GTA 6 leak, the main reason it seems to have killed the title IDs is that hackers were using them to add the game to their accounts and make it look like they’d been playing it well ahead of anyone else, including yAmethxst. While that’s generally harmless, it could lead some people to think GTA 6 is out there in the wild.
Interestingly, hackers were even able to make GTA 6 show up on the PS4’s account page. GTA 6 is absolutely not coming to PS4, so it’s a bit of a mystery how it’s been made to appear there.
If hackers were able to add GTA 6 to their account this easily, there’s no telling whether they might have been able to find out more information about the game with the title IDs. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Rockstar has seemingly urged PlayStation to take the IDs down and leave us with one less piece of GTA 6 news in the process.
