Grand Theft Auto 6‘s six-month delay from May to November could end up costing Rockstar and Take-Two around $60 million, according to a reliable insider.
As the whole world knows and is still reeling from, Rockstar broke the bad news a few days ago that Grand Theft Auto 6 is no longer releasing in May as promised and has instead been pushed to November. That delay is reportedly just to make sure that GTA 6 is as polished as possible, since the game has apparently been content complete for a while.
As soon as GTA 6 was officially delayed, Take-Two’s stock prices took a massive tumble, suggesting that even just six more months is a very big deal for it and Rockstar. That’s just the start of it, too, as a reliable insider has heard that those months of polish are going to be very expensive.
GTA 6 Online Will Make That In A Minute, Though
As pointed out by Twitter user GameRoll_, Insider Gaming editor-in-chief Tom Henderson recently chatted about GTA 6’s delay during the most recent episode of Insider Gaming Weekly. Along with backing up the claim that GTA 6 is “content complete”, Henderson noted that a developer (possibly at Rockstar) had given him an estimate of how much the delay is going to cost.
According to Henderson’s source, each extra month spent on GTA 6 is going to cost around $10 million a month. With a six-month delay, that works out to a whopping $60 million extra on the game’s budget. Considering how long it’s been in development already and that this is just for polishing, the billion-dollar budget rumours suddenly don’t seem so silly.
If the rumour is true, it speaks to how much confidence both Take-Two and Rockstar have in Grand Theft Auto 6. There’s also the simple fact that GTA 6 is going to sell like gangbusters at launch anyway and then make even more money when the Online mode launches. $60 million is an unbelievable amount of money, but it’s a drop in the ocean for what GTA 6 is going to make.
