Grand Theft Auto 6 Leak From Four Years Ago Shared Online

Remember those massive Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks from a few years back? You know the one that features a random truck driving across a bridge set to a catchy tune from The Pointer Sisters? If you don’t, that’s because it never actually leaked, unlike the massive batch of pre-release footage that found its way online in 2022.

As it turns out, the person who had access to the leaked footage sat on it for four years, finally deciding, for whatever reason, to release it on Monday.

The account states that the footage, which was recorded on a phone from a dev setup four years ago, comes straight from a Rockstar employee who they knew.

“Know a bloke who used to work at R*. They sent me this about two months before the 2022 leaks happened,” the account wrote. “Been sat on it for ages, but since they don’t work there anymore, figured I’d drop it. TBH, it literally shows nothing. Just asked them to show me a spot they were proud of working on. Quality is absolute s**** though, cuz they sent it via email (had to compress it). Never thought I’d actually post it cuz it’s a nothing burger.”

They’re correct in that it shows virtually nothing, and as Kotaku noted in its write-up, uses some Grand Theft Auto 5 assets.

Take-Two could charge any price for GTA 6 and you would still buy it.

Unfortunately, there won’t be any future details, as the leaker states they will not respond to questions and have since allegedly logged out of the account.

“Not replying to any DMs. I’m not logging into this account again so don’t bother asking questions,” they concluded.

Is It Real Or Is It Fake?

As far as the leak is concerned, it is apparently “new” footage and not related to any other past leaks. That said, it hasn’t stopped fans from calling it “fake.” It doesn’t help that we’re in the era of increasingly sophisticated AI fakes, so some skepticism is warranted.

That said, it wouldn’t be the first time that pre-release footage of GTA 6 has made its way online. Back in November, an ex-Rockstar Games employee had their demo reel leaked online, where GTA 6 concept footage was included. It was promptly taken down.

Of course, of all the things to fake, I struggle to understand why someone would choose a truck driving over a bridge as the definitive GTA 6 thing. That this footage is even making the rounds, as unimpressive as it is, just shows how starved we all are for more GTA 6 content.
