For much of the past few years, speculation has been running rampant about what Cory Barlog, the creative director of Sony’s Santa Monica Studio and the mind behind the God of War reboot duology, has been working on, a spin-off title that would seemingly “feel” new but wasn’t exactly new.
Following some early-morning leaks about the game being a new title set within the God of War franchise, we now have information about what exactly GOW fans can expect next from the long-running series.
As first reported by insider NateTheHate, the God of War spin-off title will put Faye, AKA Laufey, who is also the wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus, at front and center. It is seemingly targeting a first half of 2027 release, with a reveal set for later this year.
The rumor mill didn’t end there, as another insider, Shpeshal Nick, revealed that the game’s action focus would put it closer in line with the Devil May Cry series of video games than the most recent God of War titles, which had more of an Action RPG-like feel.
God Of War Is Not Ending Anytime Soon
Should these rumors come to pass, God of War fans will have a lot to look forward to in the next few years. Because beyond there being a spin-off title within that same world, it was recently announced that the original trilogy of God of War titles would be remade.
Not only that, but God of War: Sons of Sparta, a 2D Metroidvania game made in conjunction with Santa Monica Studio and serves as an origin story for Kratos, was also shadowdropped. By our count, that’s five God of War titles within the next few years alone.
What’s more, given that Naughty Dog has already revealed its next project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, there certainly exists a lane where, come 2027, Sony’s two biggest studios are dropping titles. Sign us the heck up.
