The Game Awards are just a few hours away, but nobody cares because GameStop has already already announced the winners of its Game of the Year show… event… digital marketing campaign? The retailer holds this event every year, but unlike Geoff Keighley’s version, it’s mostly for laughs.
It features some ridiculous categories and even more ridiculous winners, showing that the games industry needs a few laughs, especially given how rough the year has been. While not all the awards are necessarily related to games, they’re all pretty hilarious, like the Best GameStop Trade of the Year or ‘The Game I Only Had Time to Put More Than 2 Hours Into Because I Was Busy of the Year Award.’
Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Is GameStop’s Worst Game Of The Year
While Worst Game of the Year isn’t an award that most people give out, no one’s arguing with GameStop for awarding it to Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour. The worst reviewed Nintendo game in ten years, has earned it for being a stand-alone “game” that should have ideally been a demo included with the Switch 2.
On the opposite side of things, the retailer has awarded its Game of the Year prize to Halo 3, which came out relatively recently, in 2007. It looks like GameStop wasn’t too impressed by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, Sandfall Interactive’s game did win the GameStop PlayStation Game of the Year, so it’s not all bad.
Moving on to some of the more whacky awards, GameStop’s Trade Anything Day created quite a buzz as customers traded in anything they could find for store credit. However, it was an easy win for the taxidermy bobcat, which clinched the GameStop Trade of the Year Award. We hope to see more from bobcat in the years to come.
Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Isn’t Made For You, It’s Made For Your Parents
It should have been free, but Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour is still worth its asking price.
Hades 2 almost had no competition as it breezed its way to the ‘Game I Only Had Time to Put More Than 2 Hours Into Because I Was Busy of the Year Award.’ Looks like I didn’t play it right as I somehow put 122 hours into it. Then again, I’m a casual gamer.
And, in case you had any doubts, GameStop also awarded GameStop the GameStop Game Store of the Year Award. Truly deserved.
