Battlefield 6 has had a surprisingly smooth launch, all things considered, but there are still game-breaking bugs and exploits that haven’t been patched for almost a month. Looking back through TikTok, it’s clear that the drone exploit has been possible since the pre-release multiplayer tests. This is a wild amount of time for an exploit this frustrating to still be in the game.
For those not in the know, the exploit involves using the sledgehammer and the recon drone to boost yourself into the sky, allowing you to parachute down onto rooftops. This is horrendous in Battlefield 6’s already poorly balanced Breakthrough maps. Why has it taken EA so long to remedy this?
The Drone Exploit Has Been Ruining Breakthrough For Weeks
Some of the other game-breaking bugs in the game have also yet to be patched, as demonstrated by these silly screenshots. Don’t even get me started on the 1,000m range-finder exploit as well…
The drone exploit is particularly bad in Breakthrough, as there are no air vehicles on the majority of the maps. This means players can access rooftops that would otherwise be inaccessible, giving them a massive advantage on both defense and attack. The worst maps for it are Siege Of Cairo and Manhattan Bridge, although it’s also pretty terrible on Sobek City (but the assault ladder can be used to climb the buildings anyway.)
The bridge on Manhattan Bridge is notorious for this. It provides an overwhelming angle to either attack or defense, and makes it almost impossible to win either way if there’s a competent team up there.
This exploit is commonplace. I play a lot of Breakthrough and in almost every game there are squads abusing the drone to access rooftops. Once they’re up there, they can just place a respawn beacon and constantly respawn on the rooftop, no matter how many times you kill them.
I’ve already written about Breakthough being a busted mode in Battlefield 6 currently (the maps are terribly balanced), and this just compounds the issue.
It’s bizarre that an exploit like this has taken so long to fix, even though EA and DICE must be aware of the problem due to its prevalence in-game and how much chatter there is about it online. During this time, there have been multiple patches and hot fixes for the game, so why hasn’t this particular exploit been removed? It just makes no sense, and feels like it should be an easy fix.
I imagine that this will be remedied in the big upcoming patch planned for the October 28 Season 1 start, but it still doesn’t make much sense to me why DICE would wait to patch it when it’s ruining one of the most popular modes in the game.
