In case you missed it, Xbox held its Developer Direct presentation on Thursday, giving us our first “big” showcase of the year. Over the 50-minute-long stream, we got our first real look at Fable, plus deeper looks at Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation and that rumored mysterious fourth game, which turned out to be Kiln from Double Fine.
Speaking of Forza, it was finally confirmed that, while the game will not launch alongside the Xbox and PC versions on May 19, it will come to PlayStation 5 “later this year.”
That’s a pretty significant bit of news, especially considering that when Forza Horizon 6 was revealed back at Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show presentation, it was announced that a PS5 version wouldn’t be day-and-date, but rather an ominous “post-launch” release.
I have no clue about anyone else, but I’m still making my way through Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, so not having it on May 19 isn’t the biggest deal in the world. It gives me enough time to finish checking things off the map.
Its absence at launch on PS5 was particularly conspicuous when it was later reported that Playground Games’ other title, the long-awaited revival of Fable, would indeed be day-and-date on Sony’s flagship console, something that was later confirmed during Thursday’s presentation.
Of course, Forza Horizon 6 being set in Japan only added to some of the confusion.

Now, we have clarification. It won’t be day-and-date, but it’ll be this year. The only question remaining is, when? The 2026 calendar for PlayStation is extremely stacked, and it’s only going to get more stacked once Wolverine has a confirmed release date.
Forza Horizon 5 Was A Massive Success On PlayStation
Whenever Horizon 6 does launch on PlayStation, there’s a good chance it will be as big of a financial success, if not bigger, than Forza Horizon 5, a title that took PlayStation gamers by storm, particularly in an era that is lacking quality arcade-style racing titles.
Just how well did Forza Horizon 5 perform? Well, how does $300 million in revenue sound? That comes after an estimated 5 million copies sold on PlayStation alone, a massive boon for a five-year-old game.
When you consider those numbers, it seems like Xbox and Playground put an extra emphasis on capturing the moment and making sure that Horizon 6 on PS5 release the same year as its Xbox counterpart rather than sometime “post-launch.”
