Fortnite Releases Power Rangers: Dino Thunder Collab

It’s pretty rare to see Power Rangers deviate from its ’90s roots these days. Merch, games, movies, crossovers, even Lego – it’s Mighty Morphin all the way down.

As a zoomer who grew up during what I would argue was the golden era of the show, spanning Ninja Storm, SPD, and the criminally underrated Jungle Fury, it’s a shame to see some of the best teams get neglected in favour of catering to 30-year-old Millennial nostalgia, but thankfully, Fortnite is rectifying that today.

This morning, Epic Games dropped an Item Shop teaser for all the new drops coming this week, revealing two Dino Thunder skins: Tommy and Trent.

Sure, they might be from the legacy sequel to Mighty Morphin, and it’s even more Tommy, but Dino Thunder is by far the best season in the show’s extensive history (disagree? Take it up with Mesogog), and the black/golden ranger costumes are some of the show’s most stylish. They’re each available in the Item Shop right now for 1,500 V-Bucks, or you can buy the bundle for 2,400 V-Bucks.

It’s a neat little bundle considering the parallels between the two characters: Trent is a clear mirror to Tommy’s beginnings as an evil Power Ranger, manipulated by the villains to destroy the rest of the team, later overcoming their influence to become the hero he was always meant to be. And it’s nice to see Hasbro finally embrace the rest of the series’ history.

But hopefully, this is only the beginning of further collaborations with Hasbro that go beyond Mighty Morphin, like maybe the red, blue, and yellow rangers from Dino Thunder to round out the set. It would also be nice if today’s kids could play as their favourite Power Rangers teams, not the ones from our childhoods, though I’ll happily take my Dino Thunder nostalgia (and some Jungle Fury, if it’s going).
