Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Ranked Among 2025’s Worst Movies

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Ranked Among 2025’s Worst Movies

It used to be that video game adaptations were led by Uwe Boll or a misguided studio that completely misunderstood the source material, giving us gems like the original Super Mario Bros., Far Cry, and Doom, but we’ve come a long way since the days of threatening to box critics over bad reviews. Fallout, The Last of Us, Sonic, and Twisted Metal have all proven there’s potential in bringing the stories of video games to a wholly new medium, though that doesn’t mean they’re all good.

For every Detective Pikachu, there’s a Borderlands, and this year was no exception. We were treated to not one, not two, but three awful video game movies. So, with 2025 coming to a close, we looked back through the hundreds of films that were released this year, sorted by their aggregate Metacritic score, to find the worst. And unsurprisingly, one adaptation landed right at the bottom.

This excludes movies with seven or fewer reviews, whereas the official Metacritic list lowers that threshold, meaning that FNAF 2 places sixth.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Is This Year’s Borderlands

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is ranked the third-worst film of the year. The only two movies that reviewed worse were Bride Hard and the much-memed War of the Worlds, starring a disinterested Ice Cube yelling ‘damn’ at a green screen for two hours.

  1. War of the Worlds
  2. Bride Hard
  3. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
  4. The Strangers: Chapter 2
  5. Hurry Up Tomorrow
  6. The Electric State
  7. Juliet & Romeo
  8. Smurfs
  9. Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness
  10. Regretting You

Overall, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 placed 427th, lagging even further behind than the chicken jockey sensation that terrorised ushers, Minecraft, which ended up placing 384th. Until Dawn, meanwhile, narrowly climbed ahead to 376th. Yes, even TRON: Ares reviewed better than video game movies this year.

TV adaptations faired far better, with the Critical Role series The Mighty Nein ranking as the 19th best reviewed show of the year.

But to really put FNAF 2 into perspective, we looked back at 2024 to see where the infamous Borderlands movie ranked. Likewise, it was the third worst-reviewed film of the year, and it even had the same Metacritic score as FNAF 2 with an aggregate 26, narrowly edging out Madame Web. It’s hardly the most esteemed company, but there is one saving grace: the user score.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 pulled in a respectable 7.1 average, showing a major divide between fans and critics, whereas they seemed to agree on Borderlands, which holds an aggregate user score of 3.3. Still, even with fan support, the FNAF 2 box office lagged far behind the first film’s, so the sequel, should it be greenlit, has a lot to prove.
