Fan fiction is a great way of showing your love for your favourite IP. Alternate, non-canon stories of our favourite characters help fill the void left behind by the lack of official content. However, there’s also another side of fan-fic that puts some of our favourite characters in… unconventional positions.
Raunchy photos and videos of video game characters are all over the internet, and a lot of it consists of Overwatch or Final Fantasy 7 characters. We’ve already seen a spicy video of Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa make its way to the Italian senate. However, the voice actors for these characters really don’t want to see it, especially Aerith actor Briana White.
Aerith Doesn’t Want To See Your FF7 NSFW Art
Reacting to K-Pop Demon Hunters’ Rei Ami addressing some raunchy fan-fic of her own character (thanks, GamesRadar+), White said, “Maybe let’s normalize not tagging voice actors in smut of their characters….. Some of y’all have forgotten the meaning of the word inappropriate.” While creating this art is fine, I suppose, tagging the actors in it is definitely not okay.
Some fans were quick to point out to White that Rei Ami was more amused at the fan-fic rather than being shocked or upset. White replied that she wasn’t aware of this, but she was making a more general point. “As someone said earlier, it is a matter of consent,” she added.
“And it can be almost impossible to know what exactly is acceptable or not to an individual just from knowing their social media persona.”
She later mentioned that she’s not going out of her way to find spicy fan-fic of Aerith from Final Fantasy 7, but the algorithm still ensures that she comes across it “everyday” due to her connection with the game.
White’s point is that just because some actors are okay with interacting with this kind of content, it doesn’t mean that others are too. No one’s stopping you from creating or enjoying it, just don’t shove it in the faces of actors who don’t want to see it.
