What’s got Naoki Hamaguchi pumped when it comes to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s upcoming grand finale? A lot, really. Which is what we’d want to hear from the guy who has served as co-director for Remake, Rebirth, and the untitled Part 3.
There’s a ton of classic FF7 story left to cover, as Rebirth’s cliffhanger struck at roughly its 60 percent point. Which makes it a pretty big deal when Hamaguchi—allegedly, at least, but it’s probably legit—openly reveals which of the myriad remaining sequences he’s most excited for players to see…
The Real Cloud Strife Stands Up
YouTuber Vinny Vinesauce, who—as the person who caught this news, linked below, notes has close to a million subscribers—claims to have had breakfast with Hamaguchi while the latter was in New York City promoting FF7 Remake’s Switch 2 port. (Which, by the way, seems to be a hit.)
Now, I’m not going to say this is 100 percent confirmed. But there’s a reason I let this article’s title sound so convincing. A prominent content creator generally would not risk their good name for such an easily-checked lie. Furthermore, Vinny Vinesauce does have a history of going places, seeing things, knowing people; the whole pie, as they say. So, yeah. Let’s call it 98 percent confirmed until further notice:
The Twitter user, appropriately named @clotiOTP, noticed what’s up and cited Vinny Vinesauce’s claims. Vinesauce notes that this was through an interpreter, but it seems clear enough. “He said that it was, um, Cloud finding himself with the help of Tifa,” the YouTuber states Hamaguchi replied when asked which thing he was looking forward to “getting into [with] part 3.” In fact, Hamaguchi says it’s already been handled.

While the excitement is henceforth palpable for Cloud x Tifa shippers everywhere, this is simply the most poignant part of the game for me on a more holistic level. Cloud’s breakdown in the Lifestream, and friend and/or lover’s efforts to “find” the real him, is not only beautifully written; it’s also pretty impactful for anybody who has ever struggled with similar mental health issues. Final Fantasy 7 goes for the gold with this sequence, and seeing the fullness of Cloud’s heroism come to life thereafter is a well-earned spectacle.
