Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis, Square Enix’s FF7-universe mobile gacha game, doesn’t really seem like it’s made a ton of money since not long after its strong launch. I monitor monthly sales, and the revenue just isn’t all that great. But my suspicion is that SE will keep it going until the trilogy’s third and final part launches, as a means by which to keep the flag waving and engaging the hardcore, money-spending, fans.
Most of the time, the avenues are clear. Bonus outfits for Tifa and Aerith. Cloud, too. Playing as young Sephiroth! Occasionally, poor Barret actually gets new gear, as well. Heck, honestly, Glenn’s and Sephiroth’s First Soldier story? Not bad. There are reasons to play Ever Crisis. One thing I hadn’t anticipated? What might be a sneak peek at one of the iconic Weapons—planetary defense kaiju, basically—who are sure to shake things up in the finale.
Maybe I’d Like It Better In PS5 Graphics…
Yeah, uh… I don’t know. It’s kind of… smear-y? It helps to see it in action, at least, where the scale is a bit more apparent. So, I’ll link the YouTube trailer for Ever Crisis’ “2.5 Year Anniversary Event” in a sec. I’ll timestamp it, too, in case you’re like me and start snoring when you see gacha games advertising incremental material upgrades and limited-time bonus spins.
As you can see, this specific sub-event is entitled “Weapon Showdown: Battle for the Planet.” And it’s got Ultimate Weapon front-and-center. Does Ultimate Weapon’s Ever Crisis redesign necessitate that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will use it, rather than doing its own thing? Nah. But I have to imagine that the folks behind Ever Crisis have at least semi-regular meetings with, if not Naoki Hamaguchi himself, then surely, some top-tier personnel on the Remake project.
If this does in fact turn out to be accurate for Part 3, it’s kind of wild that not only has Ever Crisis “spoiled” it, so to speak; it’s also done so with minimal fanfare. I just hope Ultimate Weapon’s wings are bigger when we clash with it in Mideel and in the skies above. The original design (see my feature image for this very article) kicked ass.
