Fate Of The Old Republic Will Launch Before 2030, Lead Says

Just one night after setting the collective Internet on fire with the reveal of a new Star Wars title, one that is set in The Old Republic era and helmed by none other than RPG legend himself, Casey Hudson, the lead is helping put out a separate fire, one that’s related to its supposed release window.

Taking to Twitter, Hudson made it very clear that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, or FOTOR as all the cool kids are calling it, will release before 2030, a window that many were using in response to the game’s sudden announcement.

I’m not getting any younger!

His response seemingly is directed at veteran games’ journalist Jason Schreier, who, in a separate post on Bluesky, noted how the studio’s recent formation has him optimistically guessing that FOTOR could come in 2030.

Last night’s biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, led by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). Exciting news for lots of people… but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, which means that 2030 is an *optimistic* guess. Maybe it’ll be a PlayStation 7 game

As Schreier further noted in the replies to his post, Wonder Woman was also a game that had a massive spot at The Game Awards, only to eventually be canceled. Others also noted the many games that debut with high-budget cinematics only to never see the light of day.

Star Wars Outlaws Nintendo Switch 2 Review

Don’t Be Afraid Of Playing Star Wars Outlaws On Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft Red Lynx has produced an exceptional version of Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2.

And if there’s one thing Star Wars fans, specifically Star Wars video games fans, are aware of, it’s that sometimes things can look and sound way too good to be true.

Luck Has Also Not Been On Star Wars’ Side, So Don’t Blame People For Losing Hope

Hudson’s statement is a pretty bold declaration, especially when you consider that the team that’s making the game, Arcanaut Studios, is only a handful of months old. GameDev, as we’re all grossly aware, is a rather strung out process that can be extremely costly and have many shifts and turns.

With that in mind, 2030 feels particularly generous given that we’re already inching closer to 2026, leaving just a small gap of time for a high-budget game that undoubtedly will have many IP hoops to get through before release.

I can’t be the only one who thinks about 1313 every now and again. As a Star Wars fan, it hurts so bad to think of what could’ve been.

Fortune has also not been on Star Wars’ side in recent years, with the likes of 1313 and a separate Mandalorian-based first-person shooter all being canceled, as well as the disappearance of news for Star Wars: Eclipse and the Knights of the Old Republic remake.

No mind, Hudson seems to have a lot of faith in his team and their ability to deliver. Time will ultimately tell if that’s the case. Here’s hoping it is, so that it can buck the trend of poorly fated Star Wars titles.
