Fallout Franchise’s Steam CCU Numbers Skyrocket Thanks To Season 2 Hype

If you haven’t heard that Amazon’s hit Fallout TV series is well into its second season right now, err… then I don’t know where you’ve been. The marketing is everywhere, and discussion is constantly plastered across the internet. I’d say you must live off the grid, but you’re here at TheGamer of all places. I don’t know. It’d be weird.

Fallout, of course, predates Prime Video’s stab at success. The RPG franchise has millions of diehard fans, and based on what we’re seeing on Steam this week, they’re lining up to replay their favourites. They might well be joined by newcomers whose fondness for Lucy’s big trip to New Vegas has tempted them to delve into the games. Either way, Bethesda’s probably pleased as punched at the moment.

You’d be forgiven for assuming it’s Fallout: New Vegas alone that’s been seeing a big boost, and, truth be told, Obsidian’s 2010 all-timer has indeed gotten the strongest showing. Its meteoric climb to just shy of 20k this season has been a spectacle to behold, but New Vegas has always had impressive staying power; it hit a bit north of 8k in November, after all. Remember, this is a pretty old, single-player, game!

As of this writing, it’s close to 14k, which is still very nice. And it’s flanked on all sides by good results amongst its brethren. Fallout 3’s 940 CCU 24-hour peak might not sound like much, and, well, it isn’t. But it’s still a significant jump from the 17-year-old game’s pre-season ballgame. And then there’s Fallout 4, that titan of a thing, which clocked in at 32,274 active players within the same 24-hour period. For all its more divisive aspects, people love Fallout 4. At least, they love it with mods.

Even Fallout 2 is seeing the love. It struck the “big” 548 in the past day. We’re looking in relative terms when we tout three-digit figures. Yet, the show’s second-season impact is keenly felt. Over 500 people are checking out the original game, even, and bless ‘em; I’ve never quite been able to get into it.

New Vegas is the rightful star today, though, as rumours are swirling that a remaster is in the works, right alongside that long-rumoured Fallout 3 remaster. If the folks who are keen to revisit that setting on a yearly basis line up for a more formal return trip, it’s bound to be a bestseller.
