Novac is familiar enough in Fallout Season 2 that you know it’s Novac, but just different enough that it annoyed all the anal New Vegas fans who would notice if a pebble was out of place.
You can’t exactly mod the TV show to ‘fix’ Novac, so LoneWanderer1987 went back to New Vegas and updated the motel to make it look more like its Season 2 counterpart, flipping Dinky the Dinosaur to face the other direction while adding a pool to the courtyard. Nice and consistent.
In all seriousness, it is weird that Dinky, which Boone uses as a lookout tower, now faces inward, but changes like the pool aren’t too far-fetched. Fallout games take place in approximations of real life. Boston, Washington D.C., even the Strip aren’t 1:1 replicas, they’re shrunk down to fit into a video game. So, when it comes to adapting these locations for the TV show, it makes sense that, unshackled from engine limitations, Prime Video and Bethesda would embelish the details.
With more episodes yet to come, taking us on a round-trip through the Mojave, we’ll no doubt see more changes like those to Novac, and there are plenty of talented modders taking this as a challenge to make New Vegas more accurate to the TV show.
Flea Vendor, Accurate Mr House, NCR Power Armour, And More
Aside from the Novac swimming pool, players have altered Mr House to look like Justin Theroux, and one fan, ChadNobarkMods, even added the grotesque flea soup vendor to the wasteland, complete with her rustbucket of a shack. The only downside is that they used an AI voice (just rip the audio from the show!), so hopefully someone else comes along with an alternative.
zfawvn and Outlander3k, meanwhile, have taken a crack at adding the NCR power armour from Season 2, while secondchance2161 placed a Vault 24 jump suit in the Mojave Drive-In. How long before someone adds the Starlight drive-in and even the vault itself?
There’s plenty to take inspiration from thanks to the newest season. In fact, I’m excited to see what Prime Video and Bethesda change in the show because it’ll spark even more mods like these, freshening up future playthroughs. The Freeside and Strip will no doubt be much larger than in the game, but hopefully we see some of the smaller landmarks too – I’m holding out hope for Goodsprings, and maybe even Deathclaw Quarry.
