What was originally a celebration that Fallout 4, along with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be joining the Nintendo Switch 2 library, as announced during Thursday’s Nintendo Partner Showcase, has quickly turned into some discontent.
Specifically, Switch 2 owners are in disbelief that Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition is being sold as a full-priced $60 game on the Nintendo eShop, some 10-plus years after the title was originally released on last-gen hardware in 2015.
Taking to Reddit, gamers shared their displeasure, particularly in light of the fact that the base version of Fallout 4 can currently be had for $4.99 on Steam, and will almost assuredly run better on PC to boot.
“WTF not even Oblivion Remastered was 60 when it came out last year,” one user wrote in response.
They’re correct, Oblivion Remastered was $49.99 at launch and is regularly on sale in the near-year since it was shadowdropped.
“Not double-dipping on this one from PC,” another wrote. “At $40 new it would have been tempting. Will now wishlist for an under $20 sale eventually.”
That seems to be the ongoing sentiment — wait for a deep enough discount before buying. The 60GB requirement is also a pretty gnarly gash to boot.
“The size is whatever. The price is a disgrace,” one dissatisfied gamer wrote.
For what it’s worth, this is the “Anniversary Edition” of Fallout 4, which has the base game, the six DLC packs, plus Creation Club items. It is the more premium edition of Fallout 4. Still, even then, the Anniversary Edition is also $29.99 on Steam, making the debut price a little astounding, all things considered.
It doesn’t help that the early returns on Fallout 4 are some pretty rough visuals.
“That’s extremely overpriced for a ten-year-old game bundled in with creation stuff that is barely worth any money,” another wrote.
Nintendo Fans Have Had It Rough Lately With Prices
Word of the $60 pricetag for Fallout 4 comes on the heels of fans already voicing their displeasure that Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s Switch 2 upgrade pack would run at $19.99, paywalling some serious upgrades, including enhanced visuals and framerates.
“$30 CAD for a lot of these Switch 2 upgrades is kind of insane, considering stuff like the Ghost of Tsushima and Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 was like under half that price for roughly the same kind of content, like expanded story or new modes,” a user wrote in response then to Nintendo’s pricing strategy.
That is seemingly the price you pay to be a Nintendo gamer, I suppose.
