Fable Reboot Seemingly Abandons Multiplayer From The Originals

Fable Reboot Seemingly Abandons Multiplayer From The Originals

One of the best parts about any new game reveal is all the hidden details people begin finding afterward, or the information that’s shared immediately following the massive trailer, and Fable is no exception to that.

Ever since its full reveal during Thursday’s Xbox Developer Direct, fans have been pouring over every minute detail and Playground Games, for their part, have shared a ton of info on what to expect when the game releases later this fall.

That said, not every discovery is bound to be a fun one, and in this case, fans have discovered that, on Steam, the game is being tagged as a single-player experience. In other words, don’t expect a basic co-op experience like in Fable 2 or a supped-up version that was present in Fable 3.

The player prepared to attack an approaching hobbe in Fable.

Fable Is Going To Be All About Finding Joy In The Mundane

I can’t wait to live a dull, boring life in Playground Games’ Fable.

“As someone who only plays on their own, I like that, now, achievements won’t force you to do multi-player in order to get them all,” one fan of the change wrote in response.

Meanwhile, there were others who were anticipating something along the lines of Fable 3’s chaotic experience.

“I’m not sure why so many people are apparently happy about this? If it did have co-op, it wouldn’t take away from the single-player experience,” another wrote.

Go figure, the potential lack of co-op play is just one of multiple things from the original set of Fable titles that will not return when this revival eventually does drop.

The New Fable Is Aiming To Be The Fable You Love But Without These Core Elements

That’s because beyond co-op play, it was similarly revealed by Playground themselves that the popular dog companion mechanic will not be present in any way, shape or form. It is seemingly the one change that other developers couldn’t get around.

“There are some folks on the team that were relishing me getting this question because I cut it a while back. You know what? For development reasons, right?” Ralph Fulton, general manager at Playground said. “I don’t need to go into any more detail than that, except to say there are a substantial number of people on the team who have yet to forgive me for that decision.”

And if that wasn’t enough, then don’t expect any character morphing in the new Fable, either, as the new system moves away from “objective good and evil” considerations. Instead, players can have multiple reputations, something that would be ruined, if by chance you were a horned creature screaming evil.

Understandably, some hardcore fans are upset in the wake of all these developments. Credit where credit is due, for their part, Playground isn’t being coy about these things and their removal, either.
