Fable Fans Are Already Piecing Together The Game’s Map

Last week, we got our best look yet at the next Fable game, as a new trailer at this month’s Xbox Developer Direct gave us a bunch of new gameplay footage to dissect and a release date. Playground Games was pretty up front about what we’ll be able to actually do in the game, but one thing it was particularly coy about was the size of the game’s world. We know that it’s going to be the first truly open world Fable game in the series, which is exciting in itself, but we don’t know what that’s going to look like.

Thankfully, some rather eagle-eyed Fable fans have been doing their best to try and piece together the game’s world entirely via the footage we’ve already seen. They’ve managed to do this by peeping at the game’s minimap during certain sections of the trailer, and recognizing familiar locations from across all the Fable games. Slowly, they’ve put together a general idea of the map we could be exploring when the game launches this Autumn.

This rather comprehensive list of locations was put together by a fan called Lovelillith333 on the Fable subreddit. For starters, we know that Bowerstone will be in the game, and fans have spotted that Fairfax Castle, the Old Clock Tower, the Heroes Guild, Bowerminster, and potentially Bowerstone Market will all be returning locations that can be visited.

New Fable Footage Could Have Just Narrowed Down When The Game Is Set

The latest Fable gameplay footage could hint at the game being set around Fable 2’s era.

Outside Bowerstone, fans have also spotted that Bloodstone from Fable 2 will be in the game at some point, as will Briar Hill, which is the birthplace of the protagonist from the first game in the series. It’s also suggested that the name of the tavern in the town — The Rose & Thorn — may be a cute little reference to Briar Rose, though that is obviously just guess work.

We also know that two brand-new locations to Fable will be in the game, both called Upton-le Beans and Silverbrook, both of which are suggested as locations related to the quest with the Richard Ayoade giant that was featured in the gameplay overview.

Finally, there were a lot of descriptions of rolling hills and vistas in the overview, but nothing really concrete about potential locations. Some rather keen-eared and eyed fans noticed that descriptions such as “craggy coastlines” and “spooky marshes” were mentioned, which some believe could be a little hint at locations such as the Bandit Coast, Wraithmarsh, or the Darkwood Marshes from previous games, but this is once again guesswork based on brief looks or descriptions.

In any case, it’s nice to have a bunch of both confirmed and possible locations we could visit in the next Fable game, and this has definitely help pad the game out a little bit more. Hopefully, when the game’s next trailer rolls around this year, we’ll actually get a look at the game’s map and see exactly what we’re working with.
