The Game Awards have just wrapped up, and to no surprise, it’s a sweep for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Breaking a record previously held by Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Last of Us Part 2, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won nine awards at The Game Awards. The last record was seven wins, so it’s a comfortable lead for Clair Obscur.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Makes The Game Awards History
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won in the following categories:
- Game of the Year
- Best Performance (for Jennifer English)
- Best Narrative
- Best Art Direction
- Best Game Direction
- Best Independent Game
- Best Debut Independent Game
- Best Role-Playing Game
- Best Soundtrack
It was widely assumed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 would win big. It already broke the record for the most nominations received in a single year, with 12 nominations. That included three nominations in the Best Performer category, which was won by Jennifer English.
However, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 fell just short of winning everything it was up for. It lost out in Best Audio Design and Players’ Voice. The latter was somehow won by Wuthering Waves, which also beat Silksong and Dispatch.
With that said, it did pull off this feat at the Golden Joystick Awards. Here, it swept the show and took home every award it could in the running for, meaning that other fan favourites, like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, lost out.
It’s interesting to note that, very briefly, Baldur’s Gate 3 broke the record for the most wins. When it won Best Community Support earlier in the show, that brought its total wins up to eight, overtaking The Last of Us Part 2. To no surprise, Clair Obscur took the lead soon after. I hope the folks and Sandfall Interactive have enough space in their suitcases.
While accepting the award for Game of the Year, it was revealed that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is getting a new update – right now. It includes a new level and photo mode.
