Epic had to do something to set itself apart from the juggernaut that is Steam when it launched a game store of its own. One of the ways it does and continues to do that is by giving away free games each week. If you want games to claim and keep for no additional cost, and with no subscription required, then you need to visit the Epic Games Store to get them.
For the last couple of years, Epic has kicked things up a notch on the free games front over the holiday season, and it’s doing that again this year. Following the same pattern as it has used in the past, it will kick things off with a one-game, week-long giveaway before cranking things up and changing up the free game every day over the Christmas period and into the new year.
These aren’t typically games you’ve never heard of, either, although even if they were, you might as well try them out. They’re free; the worst thing that’s going to happen is you play them for an hour or two and decide you don’t like them. In 2024, the freebies include Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Control, Sifu, and Vampire Survivors. If you want some free games this Christmas, keep checking back here regularly, as once we get into the thick of it, the free games will only be free for 24 hours.
(December 21 – December 22) Sorry We’re Closed
Sorry We’re Closed is today’s free game on the Epic Games Store. If you’ve been wondering what it might feel like if a PS1 game were made today, well, this is probably it, and I mean that as a compliment. A survival horror that jumps between fixed camera angles and first-person action, Sorry We’re Closed is a truly unique game that hasn’t been on enough radars. Hopefully the chance to claim it for free for the next 24 hours will change that and introduce it to a whole new audience.
Sorry We’re Closed will be free until 3:59 pm EST on Monday, December 22, 2025. A different free game will then take its place and be available to claim and keep for 24 hours.
Blood West (December 20 – December 21)
Next up on the Epic Games giveaway calendar is Blood West. About as different a game as you could possibly get from yesterday’s freebie, Eternights, Blood West is a first-person shooter that attempts to blend cowboys, horror, and stealth. If you like one or more of those things in your video games, Blood West might well be the holiday game for you. And hey, as usual, even if it’s not, all you’ve lost is an hour or two playing a game that you downloaded for free and is now yours to keep forevermore.

Eternights (December 19 – December 20)
Epic tries to provide something that appeals to every gamer across its holiday giveaway, and after taking you to Hogwarts, and then to fight off endless hordes of enemies to appease Viking overlords, it’s now time for something entirely different.
Game number three in Epic’s 2025 holiday giveaway is Eternights. A combination of all your favorite things from video games unlike you have ever seen them combined before. A dating sim first, action game second, dungeon crawler third, all taking place while you try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Best of all, from now until this time tomorrow, it’s yours to claim, and keep, for free.
Jotunnslayer: Hordes Of Hel (December 18 – December 19)
Here we go, everybody. Epic’s daily giveaways have begun and will continue throughout the rest of 2025, right up until New Year’s Eve. The good news is that means if you don’t like today’s game, there will be another free one waiting to be claimed tomorrow. The bad news is you really need to keep on top of this to make sure you don’t miss anything, so keep checking back here daily for updates.
First up in the daily portion of Epic’s holiday giveaway is Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. A dark roguelike inspired by Norse mythology that has you fighting off wave after wave of enemies in your attempts to please your Viking overseers, improving and upgrading as you go. Give it a try, it’s free, and if you don’t like it, just come back tomorrow when there will be a different free game to claim.
Hogwarts Legacy (December 11 – December 18)
Epic usually kicks off its holiday giveaway with a big game, and this year is no different. Hogwarts Legacy, one of the best-selling games in recent history, is free to claim and keep right now through the Epic Games Store, provided you’re reading this before 4 pm EST on December 18, 2025. Hogwarts Legacy lets you live out your Harry Potter fantasy and places you in its wizarding world. Become a student at Hogwarts, and do it without having to pay the usual price of entry, since Epic is currently giving the game away for free.
