One of the pioneers of the Hero Shooter genre, Team Fortress 2 features nine different classes that play pretty differently from each other, with highlighted strengths and weaknesses. Team Fortress 2 Classified, a mod that focuses on the classic feeling of the early years of TF2, added changes to these classes and also a new one.
If you’re starting to play with this mod (a good decision!), you might need some time to get to know all the classes, what they do, and which ones will become your favorite. That’s why we have gathered this complete class guide to Team Fortress 2 Classified.
Scout
The first class in Offense, the Scout is great at short and medium distances since his default weapon is the Scattergun, which works as a shotgun. You can change it to a Nailgun, which is more precise. As a secondary weapon, the Scout has a Pistol or a Brick. And don’t forget his melee weapon, a Bat.
This is the only character that can jump twice in the air. Plus, it has a bonus that lets him capture points faster.
Team Fortress 2 Classified: All Version Differences And How To Play
Whether you’re new or a veteran player in the series, Team Fortress 2 Classified is worth a try.
Soldier
The Soldier has a Rocket Launcher, and it doesn’t only work for dealing damage to enemies: you can also shoot below you and use it to propel yourself and reach higher places. He also comes with a Shotgun and a Shovel. Your regular offensive character.
However, keep in mind that you receive damage from your own explosions.
Pyro
The last offensive class, Pyro, has the uniqueness of wielding a Flamethrower. It works as you might expect, with the bonus that you’ll deal more damage as you get closer to your targets. It’s a good balance of sustainability and damage, though you’ll be more exposed than with other classes to deal damage.
When it comes to his secondary weapons, Pyro has two types of shotguns: the regular one and the Twin Barrel, which has a strong knockback. Plus, he has a unique weapon: the Flare Gun, which deals critical damage to burning enemies.
Pyro has a Fire Axe as a melee weapon, which works as you’d expect. But his variant, the scythe The Harvester, lets you heal yourself with your blows.
Demoman
Demoman is the first class featured in Defense, and that might surprise you when you see his armament: a Grenade Launcher and a Stickybomb Launcher. It turns out, he’s great for protection points and areas in the map, and his secondary weapon lets him prepare traps and reach higher places when used on himself.
Just like with the Soldier’s Rocket Launcher, your Sticky Bombs deal damage to you. But you can use the weapon, the Gunboats, to reduce the damage by 60 percent.
If you want variants, Demoman can use a Mine Layer to… lay mines, and a Dynamite Pack that explodes and leaves four smaller bombs.
Heavy
The classic tank of Team Fortress 2. Heavy is a big guy who uses a Minigun as its default weapon, with several bullets to deal constant damage to the enemy team. He’s the character with the most health, so you can receive a good chunk of damage before falling down.
If you want to change him a bit, you can use an Anti-Aircraft Cannon as his primary. He also has a regular Shotgun, a “Sandvich” that lets him heal himself or an ally, and his bare fists (the Chekhov’s variant increases the critical hits Heavy does and receives).
Engineer
A more strategic class, with the Engineer, you’ll be able to build certain gadgets, such as Sentry Guns, Jump Pads, and Teleporters, which let you reach specific areas faster. You will need resources found in ammo boxes, and your Sentry Guns can be upgraded a couple of times for more power.
Use your melee weapon, a Wrench, to repair and upgrade your constructions.
Regarding his weapons, the Engineer is nothing special: a basic Shotgun and a regular Pistol. The sauce is in what you can build.
Medic
No surprises what the Medic can do, right? Apart from healing the allies that you shoot with your secondary weapon, you can also use your primary one, the Syringe Gun, to damage enemies.
But maybe the best part is that with The Rejuvenator (or the other variances), you can use an ÜberCharge to give invulnerability to a partner and yourself for a brief period of time. The Medic is a great Support character that works in multiple scenarios.
Sniper
Another class that shouldn’t need an introduction. The Sniper is the only character with a Sniper Rifle, and apart from letting you zoom in and shoot enemies from long distances, he also has a perk that buffs his damage the longer he’s aiming.
You’ll see a few lines and a thunder symbol charging whenever you use the scope.
If you don’t want to use a regular Sniper Rifle, this class also has a Hunting Revolver (less range but gives you more health) and a bow called The Huntsman. When it comes to secondary weapons, you have an SMG, a Kukri, and the Fishwhacker.
Spy
Perhaps the Spy is the most interesting class in the whole game. With him, you can disguise your character as any class of the opposite team. They will see you as that character, and with the color of their team. This is great for infiltrating their bases and points, but keep in mind that your cover will go off as soon as you deal or receive damage.
Apart from his Knife, which can perform one-hit kills from the back, the Spy also has a Revolver or a Tranquilizer Gun as his primary weapons. But that’s not it: his Invis Watch lets him become invisible for a period of time, and his Sapper can destroy enemy gadgets, such as the Engineers’ Sentry Guns.
Civilian
This class is exclusive to Classified. It resembles a man who can only use an Umbrella or a Derby Crane as a weapon, which aren’t that strong. However, the Civilian’s perks are where the money is at: he can give a mini-crit boost or haste buff to a teammate depending on the weapon he’s using.
This class is only available in the VIP modes.
