Escape From Tarkov’s New Terminal Map Isn’t Strictly Solo

Escape From Tarkov’s New Terminal Map Isn’t Strictly Solo

Earlier this month, Escape From Tarkov’s big 1.0 update released to relatively mixed results, though it did finally deliver the ability to actually escape from Tarkov, meaning you can now actually beat the game. All you need to do is fight through the final Terminal map and get yourself one of the game’s four endings, one of which is incredibly grim if you have a full party of five.

This particular ending has you all escape on a Zubr boat, but if there are five of you, the game will tell you that there isn’t enough space for everyone. That means you’ll have to execute a couple of your jolly cooperators if you want to head off, which is kind of neat if you’re in a party of friends, but it’s another matter entirely if you’re playing solo.

You might think that going solo would eradicate any chance you had of getting betrayed, but it apparently doesn’t. Despite many Tarkov fans assuming that the game’s Terminal would be an offline solo experience if you choose to go solo, they have recently discovered that the game will actually match you with strangers.

Escape From Tarkov’s New Terminal Map Can’t Really Be Played Solo

Escape From Tarkov content creator VeryBadSCAV shared this revelation on their Twitter account earlier today, questioning if this is a glitch in the game that is unintentionally throwing people into multiplayer matches. Director Nikita Buyanov was quick to claim that it’s an intentional feature though, meaning that this map that was thought to be a solo experience now has PvP elements in it. Understandably, a large proportion of Escape From Tarkov are now pretty peeved.

A Reddit thread on the Escape From Tarkov subreddit blew up after Buyanov made the admission, and is now full of angry players complaining about Terminal’s new PvP shift. Most are worried about how quickly games will devolve into a matter of who can kill each other the quickest, running for weapons as soon as possible and killing each other just to ensure they can make it out alive. Remember, the only method of escape is a boat that can only seat three people.

One user called Silent_R493 essentially describes the whole experience as “a BR with too many steps”, while another user called EvilLalafell42 says that they “can’t comprehend how they could think this would be a good idea in ANY way.” Others are baffled by the amount of work you need to actually get into the Terminal map, all just to be potentially spawn killed by someone that loaded in faster.

Overall, it seems like almost every Escape From Tarkov player out there hates this supposedly intended feature, claiming that the difference between death and escape for solo players is just “who picks up a gun last.” Given that you can’t really trust other random Tarkov players, it’s easy to see how the map’s going to spiral in the coming weeks, and why those that wished for a more isolated solo experience are kind of disappointed that this is the direction that Battlestate decided to go.
