The best thing about playing tag fighters is that you get to control more than one character at a time, adding variety and opportunity to your gameplay. With a game like 2XKO however, that goes a step further as there’s a large emphasis on not only tag fighting but tag fighting with your own duo.
Grabbing a partner and competing against others will always be fun, especially when you’re able to mix playstyles and character expertise, bringing two different strategies against your opponent to switch up on them as soon as they begin to predict your next move. Here are a few tips to get you started when playing with your duo.
Communication is Key
Despite anything else you do as a duo, communication is the biggest thing to worry about. This is especially useful when it’s time to switch your partner in.
The worst thing you can do is set up a switch without warning your partner, throwing them into an easy combo for the opponent to pick up as they’re caught unaware.
For this reason, it’s especially important when switching them in to find the right moment and not switch right before your own death.
Doing this will usually result in a panic switch, getting you killed, and leaving your duo partner wide open for an easy combo attack once you swap them in.

Practice Breaking And Swapping
When playing on your own, you’ll know exactly when to Break from a combo and when to swap. If you’re doing this in duos, remember that breaking does not automatically swap you and your duo, and you should only Break to get them out of a combo they’re being punished with.
Avoid accidentally swapping in on your attempt to Break, and ensure you’re not wasting your Break bar.
Do not Break while your duo is already blocking for example, as you’ll waste the meter for both yourself and your partner. As the Break bar is shared, you want to save it for the perfect moment.
Practicing when to use it and recognizing combos of your opponents during the match are the best ways to ensure you’re properly breaking.
Swap Places Before The Match Begins
As duos, you’ll learn a lot after your first match against your opponent. Utilize this information to prepare for the next round. Most opponents will start with the same champion; this is your chance to switch things up.
You can swap places with your duo before the match begins by pressing the swap button right before the match starts. This allows you to strategize who should go first and under what circumstances.
Whether you want to send your strongest duo partner out or save them to save the match at the end, you can start the match as you see fit.
Pay Attention To The Assist Cooldown
A major tip that you might forget is that your assist is on a cooldown, so pay attention to when you use it. You don’t want to be caught in a position where you’re attempting to assist and can’t help your duo, or attempting to swap, and you can’t do that either.
A big part of playing as a duo is paying attention to what your partner is doing and reacting as necessary without wasting your cooldowns.
The assist duo controls Breaks and Fury Breaks, so pay attention even while you’re not the active fighter, so you won’t miss any opportunities to save your duo.
Swap With Your Duo Using Different Strategies
You never want to rely solely on swapping one way, as not only will it become predictable for your opponents, it’ll potentially put your duo partner in danger.
There are several ways to swap out, and you will need to utilize the right one at the right time to see any success with your duo.
After an assist, if you want to swap in, be sure you’re not swapping into a bad position before doing so.
There’s also the option to uppercut your opponent and switch your duo in instead of just a normal tag. Press down and the tag button to use this attack, and on a hit, you’ll swap with your duo, hitting your opponent and allowing your duo to continue with the follow-up. This will create a nice combo and allow your duo to swap in safely.
Another safe way to swap in is using the Double Down Fusion. This will allow each of you to double up on using a super meter against your opponent.
This will start the animation for the person in command, and the assist player can then mash their super button to interrupt the animation and do their own super as well.
Because you’re using meter, most of the time, as long as your opponent is hit, you’ll safely swap into another special move, preventing your opponent from hitting your duo after a swap. This hits hard and gives your duo an advantage as they enter the match.
Choose The Best Fusion For Your Duo
As the previous tip mentioned, Double Down Fusion is one of the best when playing as a duo, as it’ll allow you and your duo to both spend meter and swap while performing a super, hitting the opponent hard, and swapping safely while dishing out damage.
Some Fusions, such as Juggernaut, may not make sense to use when playing as a duo. However, some great options like 2X Assist can help if your duo wants to assist more often.
Freestyle and Sidekick Fusions are also dependent on how you and your duo play when it comes to assists, though they may be more your speed.
Check out the basics tutorial on playing as a duo for a quick explanation on how everything works for a refresher if necessary.
Ensure you find the right Fusion for both your playstyles, though Double Down Fusion and 2X Assist Fusion are great places to start if you’re not sure what to try. Just ensure your duo on the assist has meter and properly times their attack as well.
