Dual Override Could Be Bringing Back Bass

Dual Override Could Be Bringing Back Bass

I’m still on cloud nine over Capcom’s Mega Man: Dual Override reveal. When my colleagues and I were providing live coverage of The Game Awards 2025, we all watched that first third or so of the announcement trailer in growing suspense as the camera motioned its way through a vault. When the Blue Bomber appeared, no one squealed harder than me – not by a long shot.

Capcom has never been stronger, but it’s the franchises that are clearly second-tier, or even extinct, that have always resonated with me the most. Mega Man, Ace Attorney, Onimusha (heck yes, that’s coming back as well). Breath of Fire is my #1, but the studio’s home-grown JRPG series is clearly deader than a door nail. Otherwise, I’m happy. Mega Man, baby.

And who else might we see when Dual Override arrives in 2027…?

Something’s Fishy

Rockman Corner has been the leading English-speaking Mega Man fansite for nearly 20 years and counting. When they’ve got a scoop, it’s worth taking a look. And while this isn’t really a scoop, per se, it’s a tantalizing rumour regarding a beloved character whose name was infamously mispronounced back in Mega Man 8.

That’s right, Bass – the sound, dang it, not the fish! – might just return for Mega Man: Dual Override. Per Rockman Corner, reader HcHecxz informed their Discord community of a quick chat with Bass’ voice actor, Matt Hill, on December 6. Hill told HcHecxz to “keep an eye out for a new game,” which was obviously quite a thing to hear.

After a bit of back-and-forth, it seemed fairly clear that this had nothing to do with either Star Force Legacy Collection (Bass wasn’t there…) or Battle Network Legacy Collection (which is already out). “I did not think at the time he was involved with a new Mega Man game,” HcHecxz said. “Now you folks talking about it, has triggered something. I thought it was weird he was using OG Bass on his banner at the table,” they even speculated.

Of course, as Rockman Corner notes, Bass was back for mobile TCG teppen last December. But that was a year ago, and Dual Override’s as much as two years out from launch. We might just be hearing Hill in a more sizable, noteworthy, role soon enough.
