Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a pretty great game, as described by our very own Ryan Thompson-Bamsey, and is a very creative redefining of the original game. It’s a massive title for a lot of people, especially in Japan, where Dragon Quest is so huge that it’s had an impact on pretty much every Japanese gamer going, one of whom is Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.
If you know anything about Sakaguchi, you’ll know that he’s a massive fan of Final Fantasy 14. In the past, it has been reported that Sakaguchi would often be scolded by colleagues telling him to stop playing as much, and he even revealed that he’s been messaged in the game itself on rare occasions by other employees telling him he’s missed meetings. He’s an absolute FF14 fiend.
Sakaguchi Has Actually Been Torn Away From FF14
That means that any game that is able to tear Sakaguchi away from Final Fantasy 14 must be pretty special, and Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined has managed to put itself in that glorious category. First reported by GamesRadar, Sakaguchi recently tweeted a picture of his Dragon Quest 7 character, with the caption that he “eventually cracked.”
“Somehow I eventually cracked lol. Coincidentally, the in-game name that I always use, ‘Auuo,’ was made for Dragon Quest 1.”
So there you go, if you’ve been wanting to know whether Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined was good enough to pull you away from your live service game of choice, now you know. Granted, Dragon Quest has a special place in Sakaguchi’s heart, given that his Twitter profile is named after his first character, but if you’re in the market for a new JRPG, then you can’t really go wrong with one that has Sakaguchi’s ringing endorsement.
