A Dragon Ball fan has managed to recompile one of the franchise’s most underrated games, Raging Blast 2, and make it playable on PC alongside Budokai 1 HD.
Although I’d argue that Dragon Ball games have never been better than they are right now thanks to Sparking Zero, Xenoverse 2, and FighterZ, there are some classics that make that a hard sell. The original Budokai games and Budokai Tenkaichi are top of the list, of course, but there are plenty of other great Dragon Ball games from previous generations.
One game that I never see get enough love is Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, the second entry in a series that was meant to carry on Budokai Tenkaichi’s legacy, but with some new mechanics added into the mix. For some reason, Dragon Ball fans never really clicked with Raging Blast like they did BT, and I’m hoping that changes now that someone is working to make them playable on PC.
Raging Blast 2 Is Being Recompiled On PC, And I’m Begging You To Try It When It’s Done
Now We Know Budokai Tenkaichi Isn’t Dead, It’s Worth A Revisit
Over on Twitter, WistfulHopes randomly shared that she’d started work on recompiling Raging Blast 2 for PC, which basically means porting it over. While Xbox does have a lot of backwards-compatible titles, there are also tons of licensed games like Raging Blast that will never get the same treatment, making recompiles a godsend.
Even though WistfulHopes only stated recompiling Raging Blast 2 two days ago, she shared a day later that the game was already playable on PC, showcasing a quick fight between Goku and Vegeta. That being said, WistfulHopes pointed out that the recompile is in a “hilariously early state” and has zero enhancements for now, putting them closer to emulation.
As if Raging Blast 2 wasn’t enough, WistfulHopes also shared a post saying that she’s started to recompile the HD release of the first Budokai game, another Xbox 360 classic that won’t ever get a native port. That also seems to be in quite an early state so far, but it’s still great to see so much respect for preserving Dragon Ball’s gaming history.
