Divinity Series Sees Huge Boost On Steam After TGA Announcement

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is enjoying a new lease on life as thousands of players return to Rivellon after The Game Awards, spurred on by the gory Burning Man festival that was the new Divinity trailer.

D:OS2 was hitting concurrent peaks of around 4,000 players before the event, but over the weekend, it reached an impressive 24-hour peak of 9,325 players, doubling its average. This spike in interest has also pushed the game into the top 200 most-played on Steam (via SteamDB), which might not sound like much, but that’s pretty impressive for a nearly decade-old cRPG.

The first Original Sin is likewise enjoying a huge boost in players, shooting up from its November peak of 941 to an impressive 1,757. But it’s not just the Original Sin games that are seeing a renaissance amid the new TGA trailer; there are literally tens of us flocking back to the originals, too.

Every Divinity Game Is Enjoying A Boost In Players

The highest peak player count Divine Divinity, the first game in the series, reached this year was 78 back in January, but after TGA, it doubled that number, hitting a 24-hour peak of 153 – half of its all-time peak. C’mon, we can beat that. If you’re comfortable with old-school RPGs like the original Baldur’s Gate and Diablo, it’s definitely worth trying, and the canonical playthrough even sees Lucian rescuing Damian – two major players in the series.

The sequel, Beyond Divinity, also saw a little bump after the new trailer, increasing from one player to nine. Whoever was playing on the morning of TGA completely alone, I see you, and respect you.

Then we have the third game in the series, confusingly titled Divinity 2 (though it’s Ego Draconis in my heart), which jumped from a peak of 62 players to 140 after The Game Awards; that doesn’t sound as impressive as ‘thousands of players return’ like with Original Sin 2, sure, but that’s still double its recent average.

Divinity Dragon Commander gameplay of a dragon flying into battle.

Of course, we can’t forget Dragon Commander, the RTS spin-off where you must “reunite a broken empire and become the new emperor” by… turning into a dragon. It’s the oft unspoken about middle child of the series, but even it saw a boost after TGA, as its peak shot up from eight players to 23. Like I said, tens of us.

There’s clearly an apetite for more Divinity, as the entire series, however small the bump, is receiving newfound interest. With the Winter Sale and a leaked PS5 update for Original Sin 2 on the horizon, we’ll no doubt see those figures climb even further, as a mix of old and new fans return to familiarise themselves with the story of Lucian faking his death and plunging Rivellon into sheer chaos again and again and again… and again.
