Dead Space Franchise Has Reportedly Been Put “On Ice”

Dead Space was easily one of the best games to release back in 2023, a master remake of one of the best survival horror games of all time. It launched to critical success, lauded for its attempts to improve upon the original title, while also respecting it, and while it didn’t sell as many copies as EA would have liked, it still managed to shift a couple of million units after being gone for almost a decade.

With all that in mind, you’d have thought EA could have pushed on to make a Dead Space 2 Remake, which is widely considered by many as a much better game, but EA apparently scrapped those plans before they could even get started. Last year, it was claimed by insider Jeff Grubb that plans were in place to start working on a remake of Dead Space 2, but low sales stopped them from continuing.

Over a year later, we still haven’t heard anything from EA about another Dead Space being in development. It’s not too surprising, as the series has never been particularly well-loved by EA, but, if Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw is to be believed, it’s now been suggested that Dead Space might be well and truly buried.

Dead Space Franchise Has Reportedly Been Put “On Ice”

In the latest episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, Straw claims that all the internal messaging that he’s heard from within EA is that the Dead Space IP is currently “on ice.” He also says that due to the leadership and the way the company is being run at the moment, certain people inside the company “don’t expect it to be picked up whatsoever.”

Straw does offer up a slim lifeline for Dead Space fans, as he apparently knows that there are some people within EA that are hoping that leadership will eventually decide to sell the IP in order to help recoup costs, if Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund manages to complete its acquisition of the company.

Dead, then revived, only to die once more.

If EA decides that it wants to keep Dead Space rather than sell it off, you won’t see another Dead Space any time soon, as Straw claims that there are currently “zero plans to bring back Dead Space in the near future.”

It’s a pretty tough pill to swallow, especially when it seemed like Dead Space was back with a bang when the remake launched back in 2023. Hopefully, EA will actually decide to sell the rights to the franchise, and some other studio out there will pick it up and give it a good home, but for now, Dead Space is pretty much dead.
