SNK recently revealed the season two trailer for Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves, featuring Nightmare Geese, Kim Jae Hoon, Wolfgang Krauser, Blue Mary, and two other mystery characters. Unfortunately, the trailer has received backlash from the community, not because of the characters, but because it allegedly uses generative AI.
As spotted by PC Gamer, the comments section is filled with fans calling out the developer for using AI-generated assets in the trailer despite having the massive financial backing of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Long-time fans of SNK can’t help but feel bummed that the developer has allegedly used AI for the trailer.
Fatal Fury’s Latest Trailer Is Getting Hate For Using AI
There aren’t any obvious signs of gen-AI, like extra fingers or messed up expressions, but there are a staggering number of complaints on YouTube, Twitter, and Reddit about how it looks AI-generated. “Its very sad that one of the most important arcade devs has been reduced to this,” said one comment. “All that Saudi money and can’t pay someone a couple bucks to make real shit. Y’all are making this really hard to enjoy,” said another.
The funny thing is that fans of the series actually like the new characters coming in season two. Unfortunately, the alleged use of AI has dampened an otherwise exciting announcement for the community. “Very ugly AI looking, but I’ll take it for the characters though,” said another fan. “At least we will have a character per month.”
Not to play devil’s advocate, but the season two roster for Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves leaked yesterday, and perhaps that’s why SNK resorted to using gen-AI to quickly push out an announcement. Still, I don’t see why the studio would make this decision instead of addressing them or simply staying quiet.
Fans Have Changed Their Minds About Cristiano Ronaldo’s Surprising Fatal Fury Cameo
Nobody wanted CR7 and Ganacci in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves… until we saw them in a tournament.
Speaking of staying quiet, SNK hasn’t yet addressed the backlash from the Fatal Fury community. With nearly every platform getting bombarded with accusations of AI, the developer surely needs to say something soon.
