A reliable Call of Duty insider has claimed that developers working on the game see Xbox‘s recent Game Pass price hike as an overall “positive”.
As we’re all painfully aware of, Xbox hasn’t exactly had the best couple of years. Not only has it suffered several mass layoffs and game cancellations, but Xbox’s strategy as a whole has been doubted as it moves away from being a first-party publisher. Arguably the final nail in the coffin for some Xbox users, though, was the recent Game Pass price hike.
For a while, Xbox’s ace up its sleeve has been how affordable and easy to use Game Pass has been, but that changed when Xbox significantly raised the price and justified it by adding a bunch of things no one asked for. Although most Xbox fans have been justifiably upset about the whole situation, that’s apparently not a feeling that’s shared by Call of Duty developers.
Unlike The Rest Of Us, Call Of Duty Devs Are Reportedly “Positive” About Game Pass Price Hike
Game Pass Seemingly Made Bonuses Much Harder To Get
As pointed out by Insider Gaming, reliable Call of Duty insider GhostofHope recently took to Twitter to make a surprising claim about how the Game Pass price hike has been viewed by those working on arguably Xbox’s biggest series – Call of Duty. GhostofHope spoke to “several” developers working on the series, who claimed that the price hike is being viewed positively.
According to those anonymous developers, the price increase is a win for the developers because it will “lead to more revenue”, giving them greater control over their future and the kind of games they can make. Xbox’s price rise also reportedly comes with bonuses if the team is successful, meaning the developers are incentivised to make games that sell more to hit those bonuses.
I spoke to several Call of Duty developers who say that the recent price increase for Game Pass from $19.99 to $29.99 is a positive for the Call of Duty studios. – GhostofHope
It’s not just the developers who are feeling positive lately, either, as GhostofHope also reports that the “vibe” at Activision is “pretty positive” when it comes to Black Ops 7. This is apparently after the executive team was “not happy” with the game a few months ago, although it’s not clear if this shift in attitude is directly tied to the Game Pass increase.
