Build A Rocket Boy Is Reportedly Parting Ways With IO To Focus On MindsEye

Build A Rocket Boy Is Reportedly Parting Ways With IO To Focus On MindsEye

MindsEye was the worst-reviewed game of 2025 and will go down as one of the biggest flops in modern gaming history. Developed by Build A Rocket Boy, you might have forgotten it was published by IO Interactive, a studio with a solid reputation. It was only a matter of time until IO and MindsEye’s creators parted ways, but the situation hasn’t unfolded the way you might have expected.

I’m sure, like me, you were expecting IO to quietly cut ties with Build A Rocket Boy once the MindsEye dust had settled, making sure it caused as little fuss as possible and the world forgot the studio that gave us Hitman ever had anything to do with it. However, according to an exclusive report from Insider Gaming, it’s Build A Rocket Boy cutting those ties.

Build A Rocket Boy Is Reportedly Done With IO

According to the new report, the MindsEye studio has decided to part ways with IO and plans on officially confirming as much soon. My guess as to why this is happening is so that Build A Rocket Boy can be the ones who get to do the dumping and, in their eyes, maybe take back a little credibility. If that is what’s happening here, it naturally won’t be the company line.

Despite Having Six Players On Steam, MindsEye Is Still Sponsoring Content Creators

A strange use of money.

No, according to IG, Build A Rocket Boy’s reasoning for cutting IO loose is so that, wait for it, it can continue to focus on MindsEye. That’s right, despite its disastrous launch and worst game of the year label, the fledgling studio will continue on with trying to fix MindsEye and turn it into a game people want to play. Hey, it worked for Cyberpunk 2077, you never know.

I’ve got a bad feeling that too many developers of games that don’t perform well aspire to be Cyberpunk. CDPR’s miracle is the exception, not the rule.

That MindsEye x Hitman Crossover Isn’t Happening

There is some bad news if this alleged break-up becomes a reality. Remember the MindsEye x Hitman crossover we were promised? No, me neither. Either way, with Build A Rocket Boy and IO seemingly about to shake hands and go their separate ways, Agent 47 will no longer be visiting Redrock. Or the MindsEye guy won’t be teaming up with Agent 47 anymore. Whatever the plan was, it’s probably no longer on the cards.

Another, I’d say, negative step on the Build A Rocket Boy journey, but apparently, development on MindsEye moves on. Last we heard, the studio plans on turning MindsEye into a user-generated sandbox through Arcadia. My understanding was that MindsEye was supposed to be a proof of concept for something similar to that Build A Rocket Boy called Everywhere, although it’s been a very long time since we heard anything close to an official update on that ambitious project.
