Borderlands 4 has a lot of weapons in it (several billion if you believe Gearbox’s big marketing spiel), but a good Borderlands game is always defined by its fun weapons and the ones you grind for. I still have very fond memories of turning up the volume of my TV and deeply annoying my brother by constantly using The Bane in Borderlands 2, a gun which screeches while the trigger is held down. Thankfully, he doesn’t hate my guts.
That being said, even though Borderlands 4 has plenty of goofy weapons to play around with, there aren’t really any unique weapons that you get from side quests. This is a topic that was recently brought up on the Borderlands subreddit, as it seems quite a few players are feeling the lack of unique weapons being rewarded to players in this manner.
Borderlands 4 Fans Are Upset About The Lack Of Unique Weapons
One such player is Reddit user Metalsonic005, who thinks the lack of unique weapons as side quest rewards is one of the main reasons why many players find the game’s open world to feel a little bit lonely at times.
In Metalsonic005’s post, they explain that they feel like Borderlands 4 doesn’t have many incentives to go and seek out side quests given by NPCs, and that unique weapons such as The Bane, Chulainn, and Swordsplosion that were quest rewards in previous games were “cool and different that incentivized you to play through a side-quest in later playthroughs”. It’s an opinion I find myself agreeing with, as even if the weapons weren’t useful, they usually had a gimmick that made them fun to earn as a reward.
Metalsonic005 isn’t the only one with this opinion too, as another user called Modification102 reckons that side quests have “lost something”, as a result of removing unique weapons rewards, while another user called Ab2dii agrees that they were actually an incentive to do side quests and misses how they were also a “a guaranteed upgrade to your arsenal if you’re having a bad time in your playthrough”.
Another user called Borderlands_Boyo_314 calls the decision to get rid of side quest rewards “pretty baffling”, while another called HorusKane420 points out how we were given the ability to replay missions in Borderlands 4, but also not for the reason that people wanted it. It seems to be a pretty glaring omission on Gearbox’s part, and if we do get DLC at some point, here’s hoping that it includes a couple of fun unique weapons as quest rewards.
